    Hi all

Anyone know of good locations in the west of ireland (Galway, Clare mainly) that would be good for sunrise shot locations.

Kilkee, along the Diamond rocks is fantastic, its just south of the village along the coast road, or you could head a bit more north to the Cliffs of Mohar, i took some realy nice shots there a month or so ago. Kinvara is a pretty good spot too, espically if you get the castle into the shot

Some of the nicest sunrises I've seen have been on the Aran Islands. If you want to stay on the mainland Lettergesh, Dogs Bay and Cleggan are stunning beaches. Killary is beautiful too.

would you not be better off concentrating on sunset shots in the west?

Im sick of sunsets! You are right though, the west is natural for sunsets, but im looking for locations that catch the sunrise.

Ive taken a fair few sunset shots by now and want the change, especially with autumn / winter coming.

Kerry is a bit far for me for a quick drive but Ill keep it in mind for a weekend trip. Kinvara is not too far and the aran islands looking back is a nice idea

Thanks all (and keep them coming, im taking notes!)

I have to agree with ronnie3585 The beach in Lettergesh is great for sunset photos. There is a campsite there , and in summer, every one sits on the beach and watchs the sun slowly setting. Then they go to the Pub!!:)

Does it need to be on the coast?Sunrises with villages in a valley can make great sunrise shots - so much contrast happening in comparison to looking over a seascape. Not the west coast but the wicklow mountains (and i'm sure mountain ranges in the west) spring to mind for this type of shot.

Luckily (in some respects, and she mightened see it this way!), the gf is now working in Dublin so I've a chance to check out leinster every second weekend so maybe ill catch sunrises there

Doesnt have to be coast at all.

    Two quick general points

1: What could be an ideal sunrise location in May wont be in December, you need to do your homework.

2: Atmospheric conditions make for spectacular sunrises and sunsets, you could be 5 miles up the road and see something completely different.

    Be prepared is my motto.
