The thing I'm talking about is the insane 5x macro lens the MP-E65mm

I've been looking at it all week and today stepped into gunn's to buy it....... they dont carry it....... so i've a little reprieve........ am I mad for wanting to spent almost 1k on a lens that wont focus on anything beyond 50cm?

ebay - its a lot cheaper than a grand. Kea photo have it for something like 650 if not less.

thanks Thonda...... just the 5x bit is so fascinating.......... imaging seeing the 8 eyes on the spiders head (instead of its 8 legs!) or wht the rice writer actually wrote on that grain!

Rather than talk you out of it, I could lend you a schneider lens with similar characteristics and that might do the trick.

I took this spider shot with it, still didn't get all 8 eyes or the fangs in focus.

Try reversing a lens onto another lens... with my 50mm f2 reversed mounted on my 55-200 I effectively get anything from 1-4x magnification (for 1.38 euro - the cost of the reverse coupling ring). You get auto exposure (and flash info too) and can choose the magnification.
