    RTE
A man has been arrested as part of the investigation into the deaths of two firemen in Co Wicklow a year ago.

Part-time firefighters Brian Murray, 46, and 26-year-old Mark O'Shaughnessy were killed when the roof of a disused factory collapsed on them.

It happened at the building on Lower Dargle Road in Bray on 26 September.

A man in his 40s was arrested this morning on suspicion of reckless endangerment.

He is being held at Bray Garda Station.

Very interested in this story, I'll be waiting for further details.

Such a tragic story. hopefully the wheels will start rolling now properly on a full time dedicated fire service for that area. will be interesting to see the result of this arrest today

In an ideal world be great and would be a way to honour the two lads who lost their lives to have a full time service in Bray but it ain't going to happen in the next few years.

A lot of other towns in Ireland with more call outs. They need to improve a lot of other things like having a single national fire authority and improve the way retained firemen have to sit in traffic while responding to call outs.

Bizpost I totally agree with you. In fairness the whole system at the moment is flawed. There should be some way that retained firefighters can get to a callout quickly without having to sit in rush hour traffic, after all they are an emergency service. It will be very interesting to see if health and safety etc etc publish recommendations from their investigation. I wonder what will happen to the male that was arrested, will dpp direct charging - i can see this story being a big headline for a long time to come

i heard it was the officer who ordered them into the empty building that got arrested - any truth to that rumor?

Heard something like that on some news report but i think it said that it was the head of part time firefighters in Wicklow because he didn't provide proper training or something like that, but I'm not committing to that because i could have heard the news report wrong.

Guys, this is an ongoing case, so let's be very careful not to go repeating rumours.

fair enough but we're not making any accusations .
When I first heard about the accident my first tought was what were they doing in the empty building in the first place. I'm a part time fire fighter and one of the first things i was taught was u dont do that.

is there any way the local people could withhold part of their income tax to protest about an fund a service.

just like with the schools the gov passes the blame to the middleman
