Any training near Ashbourne?

    Hi all,
I'm looking for some martial arts training (mainly for fitness) in the Ratoath/Ashbourne area. There is TKD, but he's booked out till Jan 2009, so I'm not going to wait around.
I do have some previous experience in Karate, nothing for a few years though. I don't want to go into competitions, just want to train and keep fitness up.
Anyone know of any local clubs?

There's a sign for some sort of school on the road into Ashbourne, just before Dunnes, but this possibly might be the TKD you mentioned?

There is apparently an Ashbourne judo club, but I think it may be just for juniors.

There was definitely a kenpo club at one stage, but god knows if that's still there.

I'd say your best bet might be to ring the community centre and ask if they know of anything or check the Ashbourne News.

I'd recommend you checkout MUGENDO KICKBOXING up there.

Jeebus I had no idea that was there - in fairness though I think that is technically in Dublin!

It's got the biggest matted area I've ever seen it's great.

On further research...Apparently it is, I just thought it was because of the amount of Jackeens trying to annex Meath over the last few years :pac:

Yea, I was in that club, a good bunch of lads, but the insurance required by the "new & improved" community centre put it out of action. :(

Clive, do you live out that way? My folks live in Garristown and my brother trains in that club. I've trained there once when I was back home from France. And yes, it's technically Dublin, but you should see the craic in Garristown when there's a Dublin - Meath match.

The instructor, Alan Martin, taught my former judo teacher (Paul Cummins) and graded me for my yellow belt when I was about 11 or 12.

Yes, Ashbourne is in Co. Meath, but Garristown is in Dublin despite being further away from civilization than Ashbourne.

If Dunshaughlin is not too far for you there is Kantanni Karate-Do.

I've never heard of one. I think Swords may be the closest?

Last year Swords Aikido moved and changed it's name to Henshin Aikido.
It's now in Clonshaugh just off the M1/M50 here: http://www.defendu.ie/location
