    Lads

Is is possible to get huge, 10metre+ extension cables and attach it to a say, 3Ireland usb modem and lob it up on your roof...

    ?!

    much better coverage....!

I haven't heard of 10m USB extension cables but I have heard of 2m ones. You could always daisy chain 5 of them together and see; that is, if you can't find a 10m cable.

(You will suffer speed issues with long cables).

    or one of these:

Sorry, I missed the link completely. Not bad, but I wonder what sort of performance hit you would get with the signal being carried that far. Personally I've only daisy-chained 2x2m USB cables and had no issue.

I dunno if I'd feel too great having a 3g dongle and usb cable up on the roof, you'd need to make sure it was well protected and weatherproof. I don't think wind and rain would do it much good.
