Ok RTW trip coming up and looking to read some stuff while i'm away that will make me think and give me a bit of a different outlook on things. Not looking for fiction or autobiographies and not too bothered about novels on the places I am going or novels on travelling for that matter.

maybe some philosophical stuff?Something to make me think.

Any suggestions?i'm sure i'v probably ruled out every book there, oops

Think I saw a Philosophy forum around here somewhere, might get a better answer there. I just read whatever I found in hostels. Remember, some countries don't have a whole lot of English books. Mostly countries whose main language is widely used, Latin America, France etc. Might need to bring a few.

Reading books about the history of places you're visiting is important imo - it can help you understand how a culture came about, or why there might be politicial unrest etc. Rather than just breezing through taking everything at face value, it encourages you to think more about why things are the way they are.

If you're going to China, I really recommend 'Wild Swans' and another one I can't think of, damn! :)
