Pro Wrestling Illustrated have released its list of the top 500 wrestlers of the year, not going to put all 500 but here's the top 20

    1.Randy Orton 2.Kurt Angle
    3.Triple H 4.Samoa Joe
    5.Edge 6.The Undertaker
    7.Shawn Michaels 8.Nigel McGuiness
    9.John Cena 10.Shinsuke Nakamura
    11.Takeshi Morishima 12.Ultimo Guerrero
    13.Bryan Danielson 14.Christian Cage
    15.Batista 16.Keiji Muto
    17.Mistico 18.Jeff Hardy
    19.Ric Flair 20.Hiroshi Tanahashi

I know this list is usually questionable to say the least but personally would have put Edge over Orton, certainly would have had him higher than 5. Would have had HBK in the top 5 before HHH too and i don't think Angle as runner up is justified for this year.
    What's everyone's thoughts?

Angle's work this year, while good, it wasn't exactly spectacular. Same with Christian Cage who wouldn't make top 20 for me, the only thing i remember him for in 2008 was the glass table bump!

John Cena? Are you kidding me, he's only worked for six months and has been out injured, and he gets in there before Ric Flair?

Big joke in my honest opinion, now why didn't we wait one day for the podcast? I would have spent 20 minutes alone ripping this list apart.

Why should Flair even get in there? He had a good match with Micheals but I think people have over glamorized that match due to his age and the fact it was his last one. Apart from that he did sweet F all. As regards TNA, think Kaz certainly could have earned a place there. He had a great year with some brilliant matches and A.J. had a good last 6 months

No AJ Styles or even CM Punk??????

I would put Edge at No. 1

Because that one match was the missile blew everything that Cena, Angle and Orton did in 2008 out of the water!

I will agree with you on Kaz though, certainly in the top 20.

Why are people taking this list serious still? It is 2008.

Don't know if anyone's taking it seriously, not on here anyway, pretty negatives opinions including from me and I posted it. Just thought it was as good a place as any to start a discussion on. Is there a list elsewhere from a more reliable source?

The Observer End of the Year Awards, failing that Powerslam's. The PWI is covers Wrestling at least in part as real. The PWI has always been biased towards companies who dont co-operate with them.

I thought this list was done by who drew the most or who was most important to the companies storylines? If so, Orton did neither.

It's partly based on who had good performances (reality) and partly on who won the most matches, won titles, etc (storyline). I read that list at least a month ago, so wouldn't it be based on a mid-2007 to mid-2008 period? I can't argue with Orton's place then

I remember their Japanese rankings being ridiculous last year

Makes sense if that's the case for no Jericho in that list. His feud with HBK only started when, May? June? Because everything Jericho did beforehand since his comeback hasn't been any great shakes.

Harsh as before that he was very underrated on Raw as especially around Mania he put on some cracking matches with MVP, Jeff and your boy CM Punk. He's being good all year its just that this HBK feud is finally getting people to wake up his good work since he returned.

Startling contribution to the thread there CHD

I'd have put Edge over Orton too, Edge carried Smackdown for so long.

The lack of Amazing Kong and El Generico in this top twenty make me very sad.

Out of interest, anyone know where Kong did place?

She should have been top 3. Seriously. Her segments are usually the top rated slots on impact. She is indeed awesome using pretty much every criteria.
