Ok, are you in Dublin at the moment?
Theres a student accomodation advisory service set up in the arts building I think.
I put a poster up there last week and Im recieving calls every day so there are still students out there looking for people to share with!
    Or you could check here.
If all else fails then check out Griffith Halls.

I think it would be dangerous to go drinking with me. I most likely end up in jail or hospital. :(

I'm also heading to TCD and decided to go for griffith halls as well. I just wanted somewhere that had students and was close to trinity. Is it really that strict, I read the rules but surely all uni-halls offices say these but they don't really mean anything. Especially the whole no guests after 10...

I honestly dont know how strict they are with the rules. But the no visitors after ten was a shock to me. And Im not sure what their definition of a party is.

I'm studying BESS, but currently having doubts and thinking about changing to History and Politics. And you?

Im doing medicine myself. Not sure how hard thats going to be. I think there is the option of switching to History and Politics if you meet the requirements for that course but it may mean waiting another year.

I think i might be able to change this year not sure what the points are for it though, but i got 580 so i'm guessing i've got enough. I'll probably stick with bess, just having a few second thoughts

Having lived in both trinity halls and griffith, go for trinity halls. Strict and all trinity is at least they allow you to have guests stay over without making a fuss. I remember the hassle i had trying to get someone in after a night out up at griffith. It really is pot luck who your housemates will be there, a good chance they will be middle eastern which could entail a bit of a culture clash, which was my experience. In fact stay away from griffith if at all possible.

Thanks for the warning. Im going to try and get my deposit back tomorrow and then accept the room at trinity halls. I havent signed any leese yet so Im hoping they wont make a fuss over the deposit.

Best of luck with that, the admin up there aren't the greatest. Even if they are difficult about giving it back to you, i still would just write it off as a loss and go out to dartry. Facilities out there (dartry) are far better, such as gym, sports hall and computer rooms. In addition you will most likely be sharing with someone from your course which makes the adjustment to college life much easier.

€1000 is a huge loss. But your probably right. Ill play it by ear tomorrow morning and see what happens.

you got it all back including all the rent? damn i thought there were no refunds. I'm in Griffith but i think i found a better place cheaper too might try and get mine back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,939 ✭✭✭mardybumbum

They are only charging an administrative charge of €100 which is understandable. I think if you have allready signed the leese it may get a bit messy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 153 ✭✭Jegger

i don't think i have, had you prepaid the rent before you changed your mind? what did you tell them? that you got an offer for trinity halls?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,939 ✭✭✭mardybumbum

Yep I prepaid the first bit of the rent too. I just told them I was going to trinity halls instead and there wasnt any problem.

good to hear you got on ok with them, 100 eur wasn't too bad. You wont regret changing your mind about going to griffith. The apartments there dont even have ovens, only microwaves.
