I just heard it on the grapevine that Fergal O'Donnell has agreed to become the new Roscommon Senior Football Team Manager.

I wish him the very best of luck in the job if this is true.

Roscommon is in an awful state and I guess he can only improve things there. He is seen as the title suggests as the only man who can get it done by the Roscommon faithful.

This is of course because he guided the Minors to All-Ireland glory two years ago.

    Anyways best of luck Fergal.

yes good luck to him, cos he will need it. people say us kerry folk are vultures when it comes to football, but f*cking hell, people in connacht are 10 times worse. this lad will do ok, but the crowd will turn on him after a while, as they seem to do in almost every county these days.

the way moran was treated by mayo and maughan by roscommon, was a disgrace. the be all and end all, is that the players, while they have talent, are just not cut out to be all ireland champions.

It's probably a good thing that it is O'Donnell and not an outsider who has been given the job. Although "The Rossies" may turn on him in the event of a string of bad results they won't turn on him as quick as they would on an outside manager. It also has to be remembered that Maughan didn't have the best 15 players in Roscommon on the pitch during his tenure. Leaving out the likes of Frankie Dolan. Kind of similar to the Keiran McDonald problem in Mayo. Does he deserve to be on the team, purely because of his ability and just ignore his attitude. We will soon find out. There is also some good qoung players coming through, that O'Donnell is familiar with, which can only mean an improvement, but then again an improvement won't be hard considering where Roscommon football is now. For the good of Connaught football, I hope they can rebuild.

Will he be able to get them a Champions League place next season? They would probably fill Kiltoom for a home tie v Real Madrid.

Wake up dopes, and follow real football. The Gaa is making donkeys out of ye all. It`s no wonder the country is heading backwards, following arseholes like the gaa.

If you have any respect for your kids, you will keep them as far away as possible fron the Gaa.

I should think he won't be under too much pressure to begin with. Expectations are low and for next year his job will be to get the team competitive again. Bring through a few of the successful minors and rebuild.

So, it makes more sense to you to support a bunch of overpaid prima donnas who play in another country. Being a GAA fan is no crime. The sports themselves is what supporters are interested in not in GAA administration. GAA is part of our heritage and a symbol of our independence, for which many of our predecessors died. You wake up.

Mouthpiece,I just want to inform you publicly that I am just about to ban you for 2 weeks.

    Have a nice day.

Hey Mouthpiece, may I suggest that maybe you might be best to remove his post as well rather than everyone who looks in this thread having to read that trolling rubbish.

I've always said only a Rossie can manage the Ros. They're all as daft as fcuk over there and this throws alot of managers (especially disciplinarians like Carr and Maughan) but by God when you channel that daftness in the right way the Rossies will give you a lot of trouble.

As a Mayoman I can't really say I wish him every success but I do hope Roscommon fortunes pick up as a stronger Connacht is good for all of us, especially with the back door

As a Galwayman I'd say the same. A competitive Roscommon would be good for the Connaught Championship. No use in Galway and Mayo having it all to ourselves. O'Donnell has work to do though that's for sure, this is as poor a team as Ros have had in a long time.

show me evidence that maughan was badly treated by roscommon supporters ala the likes of tommy lyons and paudie o shea by kerry and dublin supporters, i never heard any abuse on the terraces directed towards maughan during his time there; maughan said alot and jumped and then tried to claim he was hounded out by the fans, BS he lost 3 games in a row by stupidly high margins and then upped and left, thats the truth

to compare roscommon supporters with kerry fans is crazy, i bet there will be many angry voices if kerry lose to tyrone on sunday ;) roscommon didn't win one connaught match under his reign and no qualifer either, cold hard facts, roscommon should be at least competing in connaught but they were miles behind leitrim and sligo under maughan's reign and mayo and galway might as well have been on a different planet

Hoping to see Donie Shine get a bit of gametime in the league next year. Played golf with him and football against him a few years ago. Decent talent at midfield.
