New report in todays paper, it says texting is one of the most dangerous things you can do behind the wheel, your 36% more likley to crash than if you had a drink or a spliff..

I'm hoping this new information will lead to a softening of the drink drive laws and a more serious approach to texters..

What's the most dangerous thing you like to do behind the wheel?

    p.s
to that guy getting the bj on the soutbound lane of the N7 last night, please stop in the hard shoulder in future, your swerving was not amusing..

That's ridiculous, our drink driving laws are already too lenient.

Oh and texting while driving is downright stupid.

It must be listening to that radio ad where 2 people speak at once designed to let you know how dangerous it is to use your mobile while driving.

I'm glad money was spent on that report so we could find out something that no-one would've guessed. I wonder if sewing while driving could increase the chance of crashing.

agree with the texting, but the drink drive laws down the country are ridiclus, I see the point of them in the Citys and Big towns but there rarley enforced or obeyed in the countryside.......

What'ya mean drug driving impairs driving. Everyone knows that in the right doses caffeine, amphetamine and simmilar drugs actually IMPROVE driving. FACT!

F*ck it, texting while walking is more dangerous. Hello pole/road/car/ambulance/death.

Not suprised, at least if your pissed your trying to turn the sharp bends on the M50. Your looking down at your crotch tapping while texting.

Texting while Driving more dangerous than Drink & Drug Driving

How do they even measure how dangerous they are realitive to each other?

"Right lads, you take the red car and the cans, you take the blue one and the crack and you take the phone and the green car. All drive to Galway and see who crashes last"

I can only assume they gathered the statistics on all or an average of crashes:

    100 cars crashed.

70 due to texting and driving.
    22 due to drink related.
    8 due to drug related.

    Etc

Thats just more common not more dangerous

what about the bj's, applying make up, having some happy time, dropping the spliff, looking at the wonderbra posters...
you never see those things included in the tests....

If 100000 text and drive 70 mightn't be bad.
If 1000 people drink and drive it would be more dangerous of the 2.
Obviously only 8 were doing drugs while driving.

you can use stats to prove anything ;)

Had a lady tailgating me on the motorway the other day, she was txting away on her phone, mustnt have been for then a meter behind me @120kph, threw on the fog lights and watched her poo herself...

I don't agree with using phones while driving, its too much of a distraction really...

Do the fog lights put on the red brake lights at the back ? If so I must use in future for tailgaters. I just thought it was something to do with the angle of your front headlights.

A red light (2 on some cars) comes on the back of your car, cant believe some people dont know that.

Red ones at the back yeah, tap the brake a lil to make it seem like your slowing down and it works great lol*

    his ****ty music blaring
    kids running to him

Personally think anyone caught on the phone, texting, drunk on drugs,etc..should be banned from driving for life. Watch the number of road deaths drop to a quarter of what they are now then

The driver of the train that crashed in Los Angeles last week was apparently texting when he missed a red light. The train derailed and killed 25 people. The irony though is that he was sending messages to two teenagers on how to be a good train driver.

what has one got to do with each other, they are both dangerous, that one of the most stupid things i've ever read on here.

who the hell texts while driving, you don't need specific law for that it simple careless driving.

This was on the news, it's 36% more likely to crash than if not texting, not relative to those other things. Alcohol at the legal limit was 12% and a spliff was 21%.

Also, they used simulations, not the stats that are being mentioned here.
