Hi. We're supposed to be having a NERA inspection in a few weeks. Can anyone tell me what to expect? I'd appreciate if anyone could share their experiences? i dont know where to start or how much trouble I'm in (or not in??) Thanks very much.

Contact them and ask them what the inspection will involve.

They're a fairly new set up so I doubt many people will have experience of this.

Like any other agency, they're not interested in shutting down your business and will usually give you a list of things to sort, and a timeframe in which to sort it.

I imagine they will primarily be looking at the basic employee rights, such as
    • The workplace - is it compliant, does it have the necessary amenities
    • Working time policies - are employees getting the correct breaks, are working hour restrictions being adhered to
    • Leave policies - are employees being forced to take their annual leave and not carrying it over for months and months (and so forth).

I would strongly advise contacting NERA yourself, they probably have a booklet which will list what the inspection will involve.

As I say, they have no interest in prosecuting you or shutting down your business. If you can show that you're mostly compliant and working on any areas of non-compliance, you'll be fine.
