    Hi,

Heading down to Galway this weekend for a stag and a few of us are going to bring our clubs down for a hungover game on Saturday. Looking for suggestions on a good golf course in the area that you can pay and play. Staying in the city centre but wouldn't mind travelling a little if it's not too far.

    Thanks in advance.

    Rgds,

    Dave

I organised a stag over there last year. We played Galway GC and Bearna GC on a Thursday and Friday. Both are nice courses, you should check out their websites. I preferred Galway GC and it's closer.

I'd say you'd need to look at booking tee times soon if you want to play Saturday morning.

    Enjoy.

We played Bearna and Ballinrobe on a stags. Bearna is about 20-30 mins drive and not too bad. Ballinrobe is maybe 50 mins but a far better course. Dunno how you define pay and play but you'd want to be booking both.

Galway GC in Salthill is undergoing maintenance at the moment - its possible that they aren't taking green fees.
The g/f's father is a member there, played yesterday & the front 9 are closed completely.

Barna is a possibility, as are Athenry, Cregmore and Loughrea.
I played Cregmore a couple of months ago, new course, was reasonable, but rough was a nightmare, I would hope they've cut it back a little.

I'd ring all the above, get their prices and availability & see what suits you.

Connemara GC is a bit of an unnecessary trek for you all, 50 miles or so but by all accounts a great test of golf....

Wouldn't dream of it with a hangover though....

Instead, I'd go to westside arcade and play the arcade golf and use the bar.. All your stag needs in one!!

    Enjoy...

Cheers guys. I'll give a couple of clubs a ring in the morning and see if I can book a tee time.

    Thanks again.

    Dave

    p.s. I play better when a little hungover :D

I cant believe nobody has mentioned Galway Bay GC in Oranmore?

I had it in my top 10 in the country after a couple of rounds there some years back, and a couple of guys we played with were members of Barna - which I note has been mentioned repeatedly above - they made it clear they rated Galway Bay higher than Barna.

Oughterard Golf Club is meant to be good, about 20 mins outside Galway
