Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown chasing us for bin charges we didn't incur

    Hey,

We bought our house about 2 years ago.

At the time we noticed there were outstanding bin charges for the previous renter of the property. We asked our solicitor to send a letter in to DLRCC stating the date we purchased the house so that we would not be liable.

They have refused to take the previous owners bin charges off the bill saying "the charges are assigned to the house" even though the bill was sent to a named person who was in the house before.

Is this legal on behalf of DLRCC? Where in law does it say that they can charge a subsequent owner of a house bin charges racked up by the previous owner?

    thanks a lot.
