I recently bought a Trekstor DataStation Maxi 640Gb external harddrive for €75 - good news its already formatted in FAT 32 so works out of the box with your Playstation 3! Ordered from pixmania and got it in a few days. They also have a terabyte size for €120. Shipping is €11.
Just create the following folders on it before you hook it up and bobs your uncle:

    Pictures
    Games
    Music
    Videos

Or hit triangle on the drive and click on display all.

Yup. I find having the folders makes it a bit neater though something if I don't hit the triangle some MP3s for example in the sub-folders don't get displayed.

He's talking about external drives though, you can use pretty much any size and shape for that as long as they have a USB connection.

Nice find OP, might grab one for myself:)
    /edit
Then again, I'd rather stick with a brand I trust like WD... You can get a 1TB drive for €115 on Komplett

Not too sure about their 2.5 drives, but Samsung make absolutely fantastic 3.5 drives

That'll set you back a few quid. I just got a 320GB hhd. Not as fancy as an ssd but should be more than enough storage.

The Trekstor is grand, nice small, black and quiet.. By the way its important you do put the 4 folders on it as it makes copying from the PS3 much easier.

I use my 120GB passport. Not the largest capacity granted, but it means I can carry around all my movies in the small pocket on my rucksack, ready to be played on the PS3.

I like that Sony saw sense and you can play most video formats directly now, no more converting videos for half an hour before watching!
