Accounting software for small businesses?

I have done finance and tax and accounting in college but am starting to forget stuff since I have left, inevitable I suppose. Is there any small business accounting software that will make it straightforward? What's the best one out there and I can see if i can get a demo? Or for a small business, what skills do I need to be familiar with? I'll list what I think is necessary and you tell me how right or wrong I am.
    • Balance Sheet
    • Profit and Loss
    • Cash Flow

Obviously tax etc but I'm hoping I can either learn this myself again if it will be straightforward or if not, then Mr Accountant will be doing this.

I have got to be missing stuff!

    Thanking you

Well I downloaded it a couple of months ago. The free version is ok. By that I mean its easy enough to get your head around it. The big disadvantage is that the default currency is £, and you cannot change it, unless of course you fork out the £200 plus that they are looking for to upgrade to Professional. A Pain, really. Also, like a lot of those corporate-type accounting packages, you get a lot of bells & whistles you may never use. Furthermore , I cannot uninstall, delete or remove it.

TAS Books 1, I find it realy easy to navigate and understand for someone who has not done account for over 20 years.
€200, but you can get a demo copy

I Have used Sage & TAS Books in the past and am currently using Quickbooks which I find is the best & the most friendly if you're not too well up on all the aspects of accounting. You can get it on quickbooks.ie, not sure about a demo though.

Thanks for your reply, i have been using it for a bit over the last couple of days, and really its of no addition. Not being able to change the currency is only making more work for myself.

The uninstalling is also a problem for me. I might contact MS and see where it has to be uninstalled. I image its welded on to the MS-Office somewhere. If i make any headway i will be sure to PM you.

    Regards,
    Shane
