No I don't mean those unseen guiding hands that come to us in our time of need ..... I mean these guys!

Anyone remember when these were big news?

Anyway, could that system work in Ireland? A few of these heads on the LUAS might deter the riff-raff? They might have come in handy in this situation.

So would you welcome them? Would you want to be one? Would you slag them off for their silly hats?

The Idea went down like a lead baloon here, The Gardai were not too happy with the idea, I think they saw them as a threat taking the law into their own hands.

See while I see people thinking this, do the irish really think they are so much tougher than the areas that these guys already look after? The irish like to think they'd rip the piss out of people but they'd most likely say nothing and then tell their mates they said something witty.

I've seen patrols of people in areas like Summer Hill in Dublin and I know they have done alot of good - sometimes a presence is all that is needed.

Yes. They were around when NYC was in the absolute pits in terms of violent crime. It's amazing how Giuliani and Timoney turned the place around with their 'zero-tolerance' inituative.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they've seen alot worse than Dublin... I personally wouldn't take the piss out of them... but theres alot that would. Maybe they'd be a big help... ya's never know....

I was only joking by the way .... :(

Seriously though, I wouldn't mind seeing some kind of presence on the Luas Red line. Don't get anymore, but there used to be some pretty bad scobe carry-on.

I dont doubt they would do alot of good but I agree the garda would be against it - they'd take it as people thinking they dont do their job.

Some no good liberals used "statistics" to prove that it wasnt the more policing that made NY less crime riddled but rather abortion and housing.

Abortions for some, guardian angels for others!
