Web cam recommendations?

    Hi guys,

    i need recommendations on a decent web cam,

    the best free application to use to stream the video,
    (msn/skype/etc?)

    and maybe microphone suggestions too!

    have 2 uses in mind,

    keeping in touch with gf,
    monitoring my room when away! - intend to use my laptop which will be on permanently!

    any ideas welcome!
