Titianium Wedding rings

Getting married next year, and myself and the missus have started looking at wedding rings. Originally I was gonna go and get a platinum ring, but have been looking around the net (and advice from a couple of pals), and titanium seems to a great choice - lighter, stronger and cheaper than platinum. It also comes in colours from grey silver all the way to black - so like the idea of having a choice!!!

Anyway I googled titanium rings, and can only seem to get places in the U.S. that offer a broad range. Just wondering, have any of you bought or are in the process of buying titanium? Did ye find a place(s) in Ireland that offer a decent range to choose from?

Got mine in a shop (upstairs) in the Powercourt shopping center. Love it as it's soooo light. Some of the mates have the "heavy" metal rings which are the same size as mine and they marvel at the weight. Also 4 months of heavy wear and tear and still looks good.

    I'd recommend they anyway

Sounds great - exactly what I am looking for.
Did they have the coloured Titanium (Black, Blue) etc. aswell?

I'm also getting a Titanium Ring ( and I'll be wearing it in 10 days time! ). I went to a place in Naas, they had a fair few types of them. I eventually went with a mix, a White Gold ring, with two Titaniuim bands over it, it's nice and light and looks good. I've beig hands, so the Titanium meant I could get a 10mm ring and not feel like it weighed a ton!

I wouldn't buy online ( though look online for lots of ideas ), I'd say quite a few jewelers have rings in stock, or can get them. For something as important, espensive and permanent as a wedding ring, I'd rather hold it in my hand, try it on etc. before I spend money on it...

I automatically assumed Titanium was much more expensive.! I'm very interested in the look of them, platinum is very expensive even for the plainest ring. Wanted something slightly different.

Lads, can you PM me the places you went to and roughly how much they came in at?

    Cheers, Sizzler.

Michael Perry, upstairs in the Powerscourt Centre has been doing titanium rings for at least the last 3 years. His work is excellent, and very reasonable. Worth going in for a chat.

Also as an aside, I have been looking further into it today, and Tungsten Carbide also seems to be a decent option for male wedding rings - it's 4 times harder than titanium - some of the claims, are that it can only scratched by diamond!! So will never lose it's shine. However, it is a good bit heavier than steel - so it's a whole heavier than titanium. Price wise it appears to come out around the same as titanium .... mmm - maybe I should just get the damn ring tatoo'd into my finger!!!

Dailigh - There was a small jewellers in The Westbury Mall that had Titanium and Platinum rings...I forget the name...and haven't been there for a few years so don't know if it's still there.

I agree with jasonb about buying from a jewellers....better to get hands on and you can get free cleaning / servicing thrown in (more important for hers tho...)

Well I finally found my wedding ring. Had a look in Michael Perry in Powerscourt - great guy - he took my missus' engagement ring, measured it and we are waiting for the perfect wedding ring (gonna be great), and he is at least 100Eur cheaper than the non-manufacturers!

So that's the missus sorted .........

However, the ring I wanted was Ti + Pt - wasn't possible by his (M. Perry's) German suppliers (Ti is a nightmare apparently).

Went to Naas and initially went to "the other shop" in Naas - the idiot salesman there tried to tell me that 9 carat gold and Titanium were the same ...... *yawn* - went to Hugh Statham's......

In Hugh's ...... Martin was the salesman on the day - basically showed me a white gold + Ti band that I had seen (and loved, also in Michael Perry's). So I asked, could the white gold be exchanged for Pt. -waited a few days - and lo and behold - happy are the days, they were able to do the same ring in Pt+Ti .... ofc rang M. Perry (he had asked me to give him a shout, if I found someone who would make the Ti+Pt ring I was looking for) - but he couldn't match it.

Long, story, short ...... Hugh Statham, Naas ... Great to deal with, seems to be great quality ... Got my ring there.
Michael Perry - manufacturer - Powerscourt Town Centre ... making the missus' ring - superb!

unamed idiot in Naas ...... muhahaha, nice if you need some tin foil .....

    Time to close this thread.

    Thanks all for your input!!!

Odd, I was in Michael Perry's a month or two back and he had platinum and titanium rings. Was it a particular design that he couldn't match?

Fitz is right - to be fair to M. Perry - he has loads of fab Ti + Pl rings, however it was the particular design I wanted that he didn't have. However, after chattin' to him on the phone, wouldn't be sure if he doesn't have it now!!!

    Thanks Fitz!

Resurrecting this from the dead because the rings myself and Walls want to get are Titanium with a gold inlay like so:

So fast question for those who spent more time in Perrys than the three minutes we spent there; does he do black titanium as well? (All we saw there was the uncoloured variety).

    Sparks,

I had a brief interest in the coloured Ti rings, but couldn't find them in Michael Perry's - Only place I found them was the U.S. and some website in Austrailia.

One thing I did read, was that it was important to shop carefully for the coloured rings, as the colour could wear out of them.

Also I have been wearing my matt Ti ring for about 6 months now, and it does have a little wear and tear on it. Looks good though, because it started out matt. If you are going for a high gloss finish - you might wanna look into a harder metal like Tungsten Carbide if you wanna keep the shine for longer.

    Hope this helps,

    D
