Another one looking to migrate from PC. Primary use of the Mac would be for photo processing, minor video editing, putting DVDs onto my iPod. I use Lightroom on the PC at the moment as my most used app next to iTunes.

What type of Mac should I be getting? A 20" iMac or a Macbook Pro (MBP as everyone seems to call it). What RAM do I need as a minimum?

Any obvious uncompatible devices? Types of external hard disks, and printers? Can OSX read External HDDs used under Windows? Do they need to be reformatted? Any hints for moving data if filesystems are not compatible?

Finally any suggestions on which works better on the Mac - Aperture 2 or Lightroom 2?
