    Which is better?

    Or does it matter?

My DELL monitor came with both.

    Thanks.

    DVI

    Higher spec per inch.

Yep DVI would be the best choice, but whether or not you can use it will depend on your video card.

DVI because the connection is digital all the way. If you use VGA with a flat panel monitor the digital signal from your graphics card is converted to analog as it leaves the computer and then converted back to digital again at the monitor. It is possible to lose some quality in the process but in reality you probably won't notice it anyway.
