How to make extra cash?

I was wondering what ye think of making a few extra quid by teaching something in your own home i.e. a language or something you are trained in?

I'm thinking of holding some cookery / language classes but not sure if
people are interested in paying for a class when I obviously don't have the same facilities in my home that you would find in a school, nor could I provide people with certificates or anything like that.

Does anyone do this sort of thing? Is it worth the bother? How much do you charge and how do you advertise?

    Thanks

    Hi,

This is from the perspective of someone looking to do classes.
I've been looking into doing evening classes etc. and find most of them too expensive, so I guess cheaper classes might help getting students. Maybe you could set it up as something where people get together to chat/make friends etc. while they learn? People who are interested in professional facilities will look elsewhere, but you'll probably find interest from people who want to learn something in relaxed surroundings. Also, if it's a bit cheaper people might not mind signing up with the risk of missing a couple of classes - Ive been put off courses because I know I cant make a couple of the classes and would be losing out.
A neighbour of mine taught french in his own home and charged per hour for one-to-one classes, which meant students could be fairly flexible about times etc.
For a language class I can't imagine you need so much specialised equipment, a few books, cds, etc. Cooking might be a bit restricted by space though. I think if you are clear that you are teaching in your own home people wont be looking for accredditation, and will more likely be learning for their own enjoyment.
Are there local noticeboards in shops/post office, etc. where you could advertise? Local papers usually have an ad section. Word of mouth may prove surprisingly effective too.
    Good luck!
