The Italian State will invest around EUR 1 billion for the development of broadband services, according to the Undersecretary for Economic Development, Paolo Romani. Speaking during a parliamentary session, he pointed out that the implementation of New Generation Networks (NGN) will lead to an annual increase of the GDP of 1.5 to 2 percentage points. Romani added that an NGN network costs an estimated EUR 10 billion, with the State financing around 10 percent of the necessary capital as part of a public-private partnership. He expects that by 2013 the entire country will have the possibility of connecting to third our fourth generation internet.
