If you had one week, a budget of about 1k for two people for travel & accommodation, which city or cities would you visit – and most importantly why!!??

I am trying to decide between a week of un-guaranteed sun towards the end of October or a week actually seeing & doing something!

Mmm sun, never been one for a sun holiday but I'm longing for one right now! I'm in the same boat too on the holiday front, got a week in November to plan.

I'd go for the seeing and doing stuff holiday. You'll have better memories and such from it. Try combine it maybe? Going somewhere like Egypt or Greece would give you plenty to see and do, but with a likely sun offering too. Maybe even southern Italy or Spain.

Thats what I am trying to arrange - some relaxation & sun with something to see or so if the sun doesn't shine!

I would love to see some of Greece but there doesn't seem to be many flights. Where in Italy would you suggest?

I know i commented in your other thread but I also considered this sort of holiday before booking a week in the sun. For a couple of reasons we had to change plans and go for a sun holiday instead.

The holiday i had planned was to fly to Bordeaux and travel south (through a vineyard or two!) to Biarritz where hopefully there would still be some sun (for her indoors) and surfing (for me). A few days in Biarritz in a villa (cant remember the website but there are usually loads of villa available at this time of year there) and then travel further south to the Basque city of San Sebastian. It is supposed to be an amazing city to explore and for food, drink and entertainment.
There is lots more to do in the area and some great cities / towns to explore but you would likely need more than a week.

What i like about the idea of this holiday was a mixture between sun and beaches and some city exploring. Hope to do this around April next year anyway, so not missing out totally.

For the budget you mentioned you could also do something like flying to Krakow and taking a train to Odessa on the black sea. Another future trip for me!

I was in Bayonne and that whole area for three days there a week ago. Rain rain rain. Though I think I was unlucky.

Hey OP, what age are you 2. What do you like to do together. Do you love food, theatre, swimming, surfing, sun bathing, culture, museums etc. etc.?

    Help us out here!

    Hi,

We are 28 & 29. We like swimming & beaches, decent food & drink, good bars rather than nightclubs, surfing - would love to learn, culture - like somewhere that has something different, not just an anonymous 'strip'...sunbathing - warm but not too hot!

    Valencia is an option.

Beautiful, interesting city with lots of nooks and crannies and some stunning modern architecture. Great food, some really different bars. And a lovely big white beach 20 mins by tram from the city centre.

(If you go to Valencia once you'll realise what a dump Barcelona has become).

Last trip I had in Italy I flew to Bologna, stayed there with friends and took a train to a new city each day, one day to Venice, one to Siena (amazing city), Ferrara, Pisa and Florence. Maybe slightly rushed for a week, but I saw nearly everything I wanted to see, got some shopping and stuffed myself every day in a big meal with friends too! For Southern Italy I'd reccomend Naples, great food and nightlife, but also amazing architeture (the city a UNSECO world heritage site), underground caves, Mount Vesuvius, boats to other towns. Asked a friend who stayed there for a winter and she said it was warm enough, but better yet dry :)
