I got the results of my Autumn repeat today.

I sat the exam in August and submitted an extenuating circumstances due to a family illness at the time. I did not defer the exam yet my results say DEFERRED ELIGIBLE FOR HONOURS anyne know what this means.

Happened me in first year - your exam has been deferred, you will resit it at the next available opportunity (January or May) and you won't be charged for the pleasure - also means you are still eligable for honours, which means you could potentially still get a 1.1/2.1 etc, which if you're in any year other than first, that can be important. In second year its important to have decent results for intra, in 3rd year its important for choosing your project, and in final year, well that's your degree.

Hard luck buddy, but hey, everything happens for a reason.

ok so I can resit it in January but does that mean I cant go into second year til 2009

Yeah, unless you can sweet talk your course into letting you carry it through. Email the head of your course now and set up a meeting for the next few days to discuss your options.

have emailed everyone I can think of. Really don't want to waste a year on one module that's only in semester one. hope they take pity on me.

Don't bank on it. Put it down to experience and enjoy the year - either work and save and really enjoy next summer, or get involved on campus doing all the things you never had time for.

This usually means that you failed, but the exam board have decided to be nice to you… probably because of the extenuating circumstances form.. and record you as DEFH rather than FAIL. They both mean the same thing, ie. you cant progress, but a DEFH means your academic record will not show a Fail.
