interesting, saw this in the Sun *puke* this morning. Whats interesting is how the russians were supposedly trying to ban goth/emo/dark culture.
Remember reading something about them trying to ban that culture last year. Anyways, a sociopath is still a sociopath regardless of the clothes or scene they're into.

Also, how would anyone keep count will butchering another human being. Think the stab count is a number pulled from the air to suit the story.

If you can read this, you're too close!

    pretty much.
    and i agree, poor teens.

tabloids and darker rocker culture (i need a better general name for all this lol) arent good friends.

remember when a british tabloid talked about MCR (hate them so much) being the reasons emos whinge and cut. i also remember the internets hijacking that protest for the lulz.

it'd be nice if people realised its sensationalism, but lots of people are stupid and believe tabloid crap.

The tabloids just pander to the average knuckle-dragger. They know the market and just write to reassure their world view.

I remember reading this awful story in England. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/lancashire/7370637.stm

what do the parents of these mental nackers have to say for themselves?
I imagine a well balanced kid who is shown (by example) to be accepting of others wouldn't be at this or be so easily led by others...
    or maybe im very wrong..

Poor kids... thats no way to go...:(

Murdering someone cos Satan wanted you to is murder, but blowing people up cos God/Allah/the Flying Spaghetti Monster wants you to is all well and good. The devil just needs to stop working on such a small scale and move into war/terrorism, then it's all legit

    Horrible story though, poor kids

thats not really it. see, goths emos whatever are being shown as a danger, so parents will freak out when little timothy listens to whatever is emo music, and when Jessica starts wearing corsets and buying Bauhaus cds.

those "satanists" (yeah, ive my doubts) could have eaten chavs as an appetiser for all we know

yeah, i know what you mean... however, have to add, i do think maybe parental influence has lots to do with the nackerism, i mean, i waas bullied all thru secondary school, by shams... and their parents seem to have similar ways of carrying on..
Regardless, im kinda distressed by the dis-regard for life and how precious it is.

(have nothing to say about the goths- had the whole emo/ goth look myself for a lil bit few years ago- rock on individuality)

Those crimes mentioned both stand out for their shocking brutality.

To be honest, it's easy to blame knacks like those in England for what happened, but then, the culture they were born into turned them into such nasty little animals. Being a posh bloke with long hair, I get plenty of abuse from knacks, but then, I've had advantages that they could never ever have had.

Great friend of mine used to live out near Bray/Shankhill. Parents have good jobs etc etc, but he went to local national school at the time. He saw his best friend from then a few months ago and the guy didn't recognise him, but he'd turned into an absolute little gurrier. But then, he didn't get anywhere near the same advantages at all. And I know those people are nasty horrible little people, but if they've never had positive role models, and all they've grown up with is the same low-grade thuggery, how can you expect any different?

Never forget one time, I saw a guy (in his 30s at least) giving a group of teenagers, in goth/emo attire, hordid abuse while they were waiting for a concert. The teenagers actually looked terrified. Eventually, a passer-by told him to cop on and leave them alone.

That in no way excuses it at all. I really don't give a damn what kind of life a person has had, it does not give them leave to brutally kick someone's very life out out existance, for no other reason than they didn't like the way someone looks. It's inexcusable.

I do believe the first time Nerin and I talked was discussing that horrid case.

Things like this make me sad, because there are real problems in this world and people would rather attack easy prey than deal with them.

It's easy to blame any form of counter culture when things go wrong rather than look at what is actually wrong and solve it.

    Meh.

Say what you want, but you act out what you're taught is and isn't acceptable. Scumbags are taught from a young age not to tolerate differences. There are plenty of other horrible facets of their lives that are foisted upon 'em at birth. Things like low income etc etc. To put it another way, do you blame a dog for being a dog?

What they do is horrible, and obviously inexcusable, but unless you change what they have to look up to, how can you change that 'culture' a word I use in the loosest sense. Underemployment, a deficiency of basic amenities and entertainments invariably lead to so-called 'low-grade' crime. What happened to that unfortunate and truly brave English girl was 'low-grade thuggery' that went to a tragic and unforgivable extreme. As far as I'm concerened those lads should be fúcking locked away forever and left to rot, but they were brought up in a culture that tolerated their actions and excesses. Until you get rid of that, you will find horrible numbers of people like that without the strength to form their own moral consciousness independent of the usual one that permeates their homes.

i was horrified to find out a non relative (long story ) who lives in britain, hangs out in groups of 20+ who think its funny to randomly beat up what they term moshas in the street. I tried to explain to him how wrong it is,but you know how it is trying to talk sense into idiots. Best i could do was show him all my huge 'mosha' friends, and warn that someday he'll get an irish mosha that knows how to defend themselves.

Just read that now. It's an awful story.
Reading throught the transcript of the 911 call. The poor girl was terrified that it would come back on her that she had made the call.
    Doesn't bear thinking about.

So they are a product of their environment? That would mean that they aren't responsible for what they have done, it's societies. How many other people from their same situation went out and stomped an innocent and defenceless stranger to death? The last time I remember a bunch of people doing that here it was a bunch of rich-boys who kicked someone to death outside Annabelles actually.

And if they aren't to blame, "just dogs being dogs", then how can you say that they should be locked away for ever? Doesn't make sense dude

I think Joe is not apologising for their actions, just explaining there is an issue with society today which is facilitating their inexcusable activities. I kind of agree. It would seem in England there is very much an us-and-them mentality with alot of social groups. Sure it even pops up here every now and then.

But in NO WAY do I think that that means they should get away with it- after all, some dogs are lovly and friendly, but some dogs bite, and they get put down.

If society failed them when they grew up, then society should teach them wrong from right as adults.

Yeah, I know. My arguments somewhat borked.

I'll put it to you this way. The problem is twofold -

    1. Those people were nasty thugs - that can happen anywhere, with anyone. See Annabelles case as an example. (Even though those lads were clearly not the one who killed him and all that)

    2. Society has created a subclass whose unfortunate situation desensitises them morally, and greatly increases the likelihood of any inherent nastiness rising to the surface. I used to know a guy in school who came from a relatively normal if slightly fractious family background, and yet despite all that, the guy's a complete and utter psycho. And while that's the exaggeration he's certainly a borderline sociopath, with absolutely no sense of empathy whatsoever who delights in other's small miseries. That could be anyone, but if you come from a deprived background, then the unfortunate and unpleasant side effects of that do give a strong chance of people turning out to be vicious little prícks.
