Basically a Ronseal thread, is this possible to be able to run my Chorus digital box signal through my 5.1 system?

The 5.1 is bout 6 years old, but she works fine!

I don't know if this is the same thing, but we have instructed our TV to spit out the sound via our home cinema system rather than the TV speakers. We didn't attach the NTL box to the cinema system to do this. You may not have to run the signal through the 5.1 in order to get the sound effects.

As far as I am aware, the NTL broadcasts are only in stereo. Having said that, you can still feed it through your system. Personally, I have stereo (red/white) leads going from my tv to my AV receiver which does the job. I don't have an NTL box and so can't comment on whether it has any audio output, but if you do it from the tv, it should have the same effect.

Do they broadcast a digital audio signal? the new UPC box has a digtial coax audio connection. My sound system has a digital coax input, but I do not want to get a wire if it is not going to work.

Just tested it on my UPC box (non-PVR, the Pace-manufactured one). The digital audio output works, but I haven't been able to test if it's anything more than stereo. You don't need an expensive cable - I just used the white plugs on a standard analogue stereo lead.

I use a the OPTICAL OUT port on my NTL (Pace) decoder to connect to my surround system which has
OPTICAL IN. If your surround system has an OPTICAL IN port I would recommend that you use it . All you need is an Optical lead to connect between the two (available from most hi-fi/gadget stores for as little as 10 euro. Dont be duped into a "gold plated" products these use light not electricity to transfer signals . I am not sure if the NTL signal provides stereo or 5.1 but either way this is the best you will get.

I can confirm that they don't broadcast Dolby Digital. I think things are too compressed.

I have the PVR Thompson box and have hooked it up via digital coax (SP/DIF)to my 5.1 amp. It does send a signal but needs to be processed to get 5.1 by using the amps functions.
