Anyone know where to pick up an old Mini - core solo etc?

Ebay is your best (and probably only) bet.

There's always a few on eBay, I've been bidding on a few recently. The problem is they always seem to sell for more than they're actually worth. I'm not paying €300 for a used, out-of-warranty computer when I can get a new, more powerful one (with a warranty) for €450. I'm considering holding out to see if the price comes down at all (or if the Mini is replaced) along with the rumoured drop in MacBook prices.

€300 for a used Mini - are those Core Solos BTW? That's some rip-off indeed. Minis can be very difficult to come by I'm afraid, I've never seen them on the Apple refurb store or even on adverts.ie. I have a Core Duo 1.66Ghz (my first Mac!) and love it - I wouldn't ever think of selling it so I'll have it until it dies... I'm guessing that may be part of the reason why they are so hard to find - people aren't very likely to get rid of them when they get another system.

A Core Solo I was bidding on recently went for over €300 on eBay. Mad money. Mac2Sell quoted it as being worth £170, or around €215.

Core Duos seem to go for about the same. People are also selling them for more than Apple charges.

I've been watching eBay on and off for months at this stage and it doesn't seem like they're gonna come down. I really hope that if Apple replaces them it's with a Mac Nano or something, rather than simply scrapping them. Or worse, replacing them with a mid range tower that'll cost a load more and telling us to buy an AppleTV if we want a media centre (possibly a viable option in the States, but not here). A mid range tower would be great, but not to replace the Mini.

Yeah I don't get why Apple does not show more love for the Mini - other than processor/hard drive updates, not much of anything has changed since the first release. It's a great little system IMO and it needs to remain in Apple's line-up - the Apple TV is pretty much useless, especially to anyone outside the US.

They're pretty weak machines, IMO, unless they are being used for very basic stuff e.g. web browser or entertainment centre. There are 5 or 6 of them lying unused around our office.

However I think they are likely to retain their value much more than your average computer. Apple are unlikely to replace them with anything similar anytime soon, they don't take up much space, and people have a tendency to get attached to them.

Can I have one please? :D

Seriously, if you are looking to get rid of them...

I'd love one myself! If I ever have the option of buying a few then I will.
