Thought this was more suited to here than the TV forum:

Anyone see the new HBO series 'Generation Kill' or even read the book of the same name by Evan Wright? Wright was imbedded with the Bravo Coy, First Recon Marines for Operation Iraqi Freedom/Invasion of Iraq. He rode on the "thin skinned" humvees with the marines. He later got accosted by some marine officers for his 'too close to the truth' description of his experiences.

Am currently on episode 4 of 7 and am liking it a lot. Its not really that factual or educational. It may ont be Emmy (or wahatever the TV awards are called) material. Just gritty honest portrayal of recon marines in humvees going into Iraq in 2003. All they do is bitch and moan about what they are doing there and whether it will actually make a difference.

Bought the book the other day and have yet to start into it.

What channel would that be on with satellite?

Bitching and moaning by the lads sounds normal SOP's for a operational tour

Bramble could you please PM me which cousins you got the series from?

Also how many episodes are there? I'm missing 5 and 7 and maybe others if there were more than 7.

yeah i read the book, though it was quite good.

there seemed to be a fair bit of friction between some of the officers and the rest of the marines.

I also read Nathaniel Fick's book "one bullet away". He was Lt. Fick. That was good too. it was about his career in the marines so had a longer timeline than generation kill i.e. what unit he was in before he joined recon, what his selection was like, had more on what they did in Iraq.
