one of my all time favorite games! spent so many hours playing it over and over!

some would say it was a wasted time, i enjoyed every minute of it though!

Masterpiece of a game. Really has a magic quality about it. Whenever I play it, it instantly transports me back to my childhood.

    :D

Did you have a problem finding the secret passage into the castle at the start of the game?

I remember when we first played it we hadn't a clue where to go for ages.

My cousin was actually giving out because my grandparents had bought his this 'crap game' and wanted something more like the copy of Castle of Illusion that they'd bought me.

    Ah, the stupidity of youth.

i remember the first time i played it actually, me and my sister used to take turns and she figured out the secret passage :D good memories

I think I may dig out my snes and give it another go. I've played through it a few times in the last few years on emulators, but it's just not the same.

Actually, I remember changing the battery in the cartridge a couple of years ago. So it should be alright for another 8 years or so.

    Excellent! :)

haha ive never had to change the battery in a cartridge, but then again my snes broke a few years ago, so i bought a gba just so i could play a link to the past, i agree its not the same though :(

I had it on the snes and I'd say I played through it about 5 times on its original format. I remember the first time I played it over one great Christmas. Back in those days (*waves walking stick*) there was no internet, so you had to figure it all out the old fashioned way!

It translates really well to the portable format too... the GBA version is excellent, and I've finished it a couple of times on that too.

    Favourite game of all time.

For those of you who love Link to the Past i suggest you google Zelda: Parallel Worlds. Its a full scale fan made mod made from the bones of LTTP. Absolutely amazing, and really difficult.

My mate had thuis when we were kids and while he loved it I could never get into it, Got it for VC there recently and still haven't had a chance to get at it, My new TV arrives in two weeks and LttP is the first thing thats getting booted up.

Best thing Nintendo ever did was releasing that game.

Nothing released since on any console holds a candle to it (though Ocarina of Time comes close)

Excellent game, had some brilliant music too.

Is this game really better than the ocarina of time?I bought a SNES about 7 years ago with this and street fighter 2 but never really got into it.

Well I think it's a far better game than Ocarina of Time but that is subjective. What I can say for sure is that Link to the Past is one of the greatest games ever made and should be played by anyone with even a passing in interest in videogames. It really is fantastic.

it can, you'll need a classic or GameCube controller to play it though.

I have started playing it again now because of this thread :D I have not played it in years and years and had forgotten how good it is.

Ocarina of Time was an excellent game. I really liked the Phantom Hourglass, great fun. Am on a roll of buying old GBA games for my DS at the moment, so should pick up a copy of this going by what everyone's said on this thread!

Downloaded and beat it for the Virtual Console last year. Couldn't keep my hands off that classic controller. Best Zelda ever.

Don't make me take out my Zelda Collector's Edition and start playing Ocarina again. Because I'm tempted.

    Ouch! :(

I was so excited when I went to buy this game as a child that I ran from the car to the shopping centre and ended up falling over a bin on the way. I got stuck for ages in the castle garden too trying to work out where to go, it seems everyone who plays it gets stuck there :)

The "Dark World" remix song in Smash Bros makes me want to replay it so badly.

The music in the zelda games really is amazing. There are many recycled themes but most of them are new and exclusive to a certain game in the series. They all just compliment each other so well that I thought for a long time that they just kept updating the music for each new game were really Kenji Kondo had composed 90% new stuff for each release. Each game just has a handful of absolute classics that get used over and over like Kokiri forest and the original zelda theme. Link to the past definitely had the best soundtrack and most of it's themes have been re-used in subsequent games and become series staples.

Just finished that on the Wii actually, moved onto Majora's Mask, not as much fun so far though as I'm not a big fan of the constantly under a time limit gameplay.

It takes a while to get into but once you get it, it gets really good. It's probably the most unique zelda game ever made and you'll play nothing else like it. Story is also very good, quite dark.

    LOL.

I still remember buying this.. I wanted it so bad after seeing a big review in SuperPlay. Games those days cost around £40-45, and there was no way I could afford it.

I was being dragged around Dunnes in the Square one day, and they had this tiny little games section at one of the tills. What did I see hiding in the glass cabinet on sale for £20()...I nearly shat myself, couldnt believe my luck :pac:

TV delayed yet again, have decided that enough is enough and have procured the use of a tiny 14 inch colour portable and will hook up the Wii later this evening.

    Zelda here I come.
