New Dental Gumshields hurt

Hi All, I need your expertise. I got new dental gumshields from my dentist yesterday. They fit perfect except they really hurt my gums...feels like there is loads of pressure on them... Will they loosen up or should I ring him and get him to sort me out with a new ones? Thanks, Ed
