Being naturally nocturnal we tend to when possible to sleep during the day
and whether you are the type to goes to bed as the sun rises or at noon there are certain discordant noises the day dwellers will make which will disturb us from our slumber.

What will wake you with out fail or keep you from slumbering ?

Today it was a pneumatic drill, bastards started at 9:10 and didn't break for lunch until 12:30.

    CHILDREN.

I used to live in a place and the neighbours knew I worked shifts but made zero concession to me. All they had to do was not let them play in the room next to me.

Thats when the 150 watt amp with Metal zone distortion had to start making appearances.

    Nice, that oughta learn em!

Personally, if the builder who has been working on my house for the last few weeks doesn't start showing some damned consideration you're gonna see me on the front page of a newspaper some time veeeeery soon

Edit: weird, I'm the same Lolly, and the fact that builder-boy is working on the heating and testing it on full blast at crazy intervals is one of the things that's edging him towards a hole in my back garden

    I am a light sleeper :(

There are some sounds once I get used somehow I manage to block, like the dart passing outside my window.. but my flatmate never holds the doors behind her, and literally leaves it to slam, that wakes me everytime... also the annoying noise when she plays SIMS. That music is just nerves wrecking

Sorry, bit of a lurker here.

Boy-racers on the M50. Its not even that close but my God it reminds me of my old scalextric. They do it at like 2 or 3 in the morning, up and down this little stretch of road that runs parallel to the motorway. I can hear everything, each little gear change!

Tinnitus (ringing in ears ) guaranteed at least two days / nights in a week , the sound of a low flying jet screeching it's way across the skys will be in my head /ears instead of over my head :(

Going to bed at 6/7 in the morning and trying to sleep while birds are chirping or cats are meowing. Mother nature is a bítch!

Having no work to go to, nowhere I have to be, and having the choice of sleep by day or sleep by night, as much as I can , I choose staying up all night. My life turned upside down a few years ago so why not turn, time sunny side up. I have very little control of my days now, so I stay awake as a kind of protest. Makes little sense but thats me. As the saying goes; of all the things I've lost,I miss my mind the most!

Girlfriend stealing my sheets wakes me up and puts me in foul humour! Other than that it's people getting up for work and general movement.

I live on a relatively quiet estate so not much traffic or building work to wake me.

    A freaky one last week.
Had one of those dreams about the aliens. You know the little grey dudes with big eyes and a passion for probing things. Woke up in the complete darkness to hear weird noises coming from the floor below (I sleep on a top bunk). Naturally I'm more scared than a skinny white business man in a state prison.

Turns out it was the dog licking his paws.

For me living near the airport means i've grown a thick skin for noises, unless its next door doing house repairs there aint alot that will wake me. however i find girls who sprawl in the bed tend to always wake me up and i can never get back to sleep, most of the time i get up and get some food or have a shower until they wake up. Anyone have this problem? Better yet anyone got any solutions that dont involve waking her the hell up and tell her to get the hell out!

During the summer my bed time was when i noticed it was bright out, so i'd go to bed, and id here my dad getting up and bumping around about an hour later.
I found this as a reason to give out to him, he just told me to go to bed earlier, i did not! :pac:

There's a feckin dog in a garden near me that barks 24-7.... I have called the dspca to no avail.... Next step is to kill the owner (poor doggy has done nothing wrong, not his fault he is being mistreated)

We have some new neighbours in next door who have turned their driveway into a garage. They're constantly working on cars.

One really REALLY annoying thing they keep waking me up with is sanding. There is absolutely nothing as annoying as the sound of a piece of sandpaper. Over and over and over. For about 4 hours.

Keep my phone beside me pillow(on slient of course) , but was asleep early morning the other morning and i got a text, (new phone still not used to it) and it starts flashing blue and white, it woke me , i thought we were having tunder and lighting, i was scared:(:D

Other things that wake me , be my little brother, who still hasnt master the whole talk in a normal tone, but shouts everything, woke me up one morning shouting at the top of his lungs to my ma, " asking why she and dad got married" ha inquizitive little thing!

Cat fights. And not the good kind.

    Yup, I concur.
We have sort of "adopted" a stray cat (or at least we feed him.) And every so often a black and white cat comes along and fights with him. Cats are noisy feckers when they're angry.

If I'm just settling down and trying to sleep, then birds chirping will annoy me. But if I'm already asleep they probably won't bother me because I'm quite a heavy sleeper.

The worst I have ever had to put up with (luckily it's only happened twice) is a fox yelping near my window. You have to hear it to believe - how the hell one fox makes that much noise I'll never know. It was headwrecking!

    I'd have to say builders.
    Car/House alarms.
Snoring people, whether beside or in the next room.
When it's cold and your nose goes ice cold, that always wakes me up with the shivers.
Cats clawing each other out the back.
The neighbours out the back, when their back garden spotlight goes off, it seeps into my room.
The bathroom is next door to me.
    The hamster scratching downstairs.
