No, but have a look at http://www.scouts.ie/provinces/dublin-metropolitan-scout-province/ , there are a few SAI scout groups not too far from DCU.

SAI doesn't exist anymore. Not since 5 years ago. Nor does CSI. I'm heavily involved in Scouting as it is but was wondering if there was a possibility of setting up a Rover Crew in DCU - a lot of socials with a few varied activities, paint balling, hiking, water activities etc.

Yeah I can understand that you and your daughter are upset. Unfortunately PLs/APLs are often chose by age and not by experience. The idea behind this is that everyone will get a turn etc. I myself wasn't an APL until 13 and then PL at 14.

I don't think that leaders would be biased towards their sons/daughters as this is competely going against the scout law.

Can you PM me the group she's in and we can discuss it further?

That's fair enough. If she is 13 and is only in scout a year, can i presume she was not in Cubs or Beavers? People who come up through the ranks would get preferential treatment as they would have the experience of scouting.

I fear that requesting a meeting will get you nowhere. They will not demote the APL as this is completely unfair to the young person. Tell your daughter to sit tight and see what happens - but bare in mind, your daughter might act completely different at home that in scouts!

    hi Glenn

I'll gladly join in if a soc is started. I'm currently still part of a rover group in blackrock but it's rather annoying going across the city for meetings, having one in DCU would suit me much better!

You coming to lough dan in october?

Great Cocoa! Are you part of Hugh McClain's group? 29th Blackrock yeah?

There seems to be a bit of an interest so maybe we can get together next Freshers week and discuss setting up at a soc?

Yeah please do and see can you get some more interested parties! I've already spoken to Scouting Ireland and they're fully on board so first step is to get people who are intersted!
