Well.. it's the new UK version of villagehatshop.com

But village hat shop wouldn't really ship outside the US unless you jumped through some serious hoops involving photocopies of utility bills and passports first.

    The new one is hatsandcaps.co.uk

I just put an order through with them... so I'll be sure to let you all know how I get on.

    To quote the ads:

    "This is gonna be great!"

You have to use Google Checkout to buy off them... it's sort of Google's answer to Paypal... it feels oddly inconclusive to use and I wasn't sure if the purchase had gone through properly at all until I got an email saying:

"Thank you for your order. Your hat is in stock and shipped today."

Not a huge amount of information... lets see how long it takes... it better not take too long as shipping was £9.95, which is pricey enough.

    I like this one. :)

Not mad on the colour though, if it was black with pinstripes it would be nicer.

I've found that in practice black doesn't work too well with hats. Doesn't really work with anything other than black.

Brown and Grey on the other hand will work with pretty much anything.

Okay. My hat arrived today. So pretty speedy delivery and the quality of the hat is great. Smells a little bit like mola for some reason though.

I'm still contemplating getting that hat I posted, although I don't know if it'd suit me...

I went with the French one.

It's ideal for all my outdoor adventures.

Fcuk it, I'm gonna get that hat. It'll probably look ridiculous on me but it's not too expensive. :)

Hello. Bruce Zales here – owner of hatsandcaps.co.uk. Sorry to bother you and if this is out of line, please let me know. I sincerely apologize for intruding, but I thought it made sense to address a few things mentioned here.

1.It is correct that Google Checkout is currently our only means of purchasing a hat. But we will be fully integrating our streamline merchant account with a Commidea payment gateway into the back end of our site in the first week of October and offering a much more sophisticated shopping cart (as well as continuing to offer Google Checkout). There were several delays in acquiring this merchant account and we felt it made sense to go live as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience.

    2. I’m not sure if Mola from Temple of doom is who you were referring to, but the smell (a bit like petrol and currently only on the French and Indian pith helmets) goes away in relatively short order once removed from the box. It is unfortunately a consequence of the manufacturing process.

    3. There were some hoops to jump through when buying from the US – we agree. This is why we chose to set up shop in Wembley. We are hoping to create a much simpler procedure for our customers in the UK and the EU. And I hope the gentlemen who purchased the pith helmet found that to be the case.
I hope you enjoy the new site. We still have quite a few more hats due to arrive, so check back. If you have any questions you can email me at cs [at] hatsandcaps.co.uk

Again, if this is out of line in any way, please accept my apology.
    Best regards,
    Bruce

Hi Bruce, thanks for chiming in here. Your post answers a few of the questions I had. :)

BTW, I cleaned up your post a little by removing some excess tags and making it a little more readable. I didn't change the content, hope you don't mind. ;)

Yep. Thanks for the comments, Bruce.

I really wasn't complaining about anything.. you can only get the smell if you stick your face right into it... I just thought it was a funny smell as it reminded me so much of mola.

It's a very good quality hat and it's delivery was very speedy.

Best of luck with the site. Always good to have somewhere new to buy hats as it's very hard to find quality mens hats in the shops here now a days.

    To Monkeyfudge:

Thanks very much for the well wishes. I definately appreciate it and am very pleased you like the helmet. We should be getting the UK pith helmet in sometime early next year as well.

    And to Dord:

Thanks for cleaning up my previous post. Not sure what happened there. Guess I shouldn't type it up in word.

And this is my last plug. We'll do our best to provide you with a great selection hats with the service to match. Thanks again, and I hope you all like the site.

    Best regards,
    Bruce

    Dord,

Sorry about the late reply here in the forum. We've been working towards having the integration completed with our payment gateway and our back end (not yet, but closing in). I'm hoping everything went smoothly and the hat arrived in good fashion. Please let me know if there's anything else you need.

    Best regards,
    Bruce

I'd love to have a look at the site but their IIS seems to have **** itself. Unless they're integrating that new payment system.

You'll have to measure your noggin! :p
They have a size guide on the site that converts to the large, extra large type size. Very handy!

Yeah, keep meaning to, but keep forgetting >_<

Tried on some Indiana Jones hats in EuroDisney weekend before last, think the large size there fitted best...
