Hi all (mostly ladies i presume), im considering going on the injection contraceptive and wonder does anyone have any advice for me on it. Ive been on the pill on and off now for 6/7 years and I suffer from IBS. Ive been on Yasmin for the last about 2years, all other pills weren't strong enough as i had spotting with them and hence the reason im on such a strong one. I recently went travelling for 6mths and left my boyfriend at home and so i went off the pill to give my body a break. During that time my IBS improved but i didn't realise how much until i came back and went back on Yasmin & my IBS got really bad. I spoke to the Doctor and asked about going on the injection as since it wouldn't be going into my body through the digestive system that it might help my problems, im nervous about going on it though as she said it takes over a year for fertility to return normally. When i went off the Yasmin it took me 4mths to get my periods so im worse than most people. Has anyone any experience like this that could help me out? Also how much is the injection here in Ireland? Presume you've to pay doctor visit along with the cost of the injection every 12weeks. Thanks a mill!

Wow i never knew the pill affected Ibs, I must have a think about that.

I'm on cileste, and haven't had much problems with it, compared to ther ones I've been on. I know one person who was on the injection, and she had her period for a few months straight, which isn't the ideal situation. Some things suit some oeple, and don't suit others.

There are other non oral options rather then the dp injection ( which I would reccemend for anyone ).

Hi!
I'm on Depo Provera. The way it works is you get a prescription from your doctor and fill it in the chemist (rougly 15 euro) and then pay for the doctors appointment aswell (however much your doctor charges). I went to the well woman center before where its all in one as in they supply the injection so there is no trip to the chemist beforehand but dunno their prices - have a look on their site.

It works for me and I've no problems but it doesn't work for others. Have spoken to my doctor about the fertility issue and been told it takes between 6mths - 2 years to wear off but it is viewed as a long term contraceptive rather than short term. I came off it before and went on the pill where it took 5-6mths for my periods to come back...having said that I really didn't like being on the pill!!!!

Its your decision as to what you decide to do but research all your options and get as much advice from your doctor as you can!
