Aer Lingus Online Check In / Seat Selection

Being my usual aviation enthusiastic self, I'm going on my first a330 trip on Saturday to Malaga and need to ensure that I get a window seat (i tend to hurt my neck from trying to see out if placed anywhere else). While aer lingus is usually over informative of all things flight related (chuckles under my breath) can you select you seat on board during online checkin or will they still sting you for the seat booking charge?

    Thanks in advance . . .

Will it be an A330 to Malaga ? I would have expected a A320 or maybe a 321

    Yes you will get stung.

However if you check in on Friday online you can do it for free , or indeed wait for the airport and do it on the self serv kiosk. The gamble with waiting until the airport is that all the windows may have gone. The advantage is that rows 1-6 and the exit seats are opened up then , you cannot select these on the online checkin.

Ya strangely it is an A330-300 - one goes to Malaga every Saturday morning for the past few weeks!

EI584/5 6 everyday is a A333. Comes in from JFK or BOS, goes to AGP at 7.30am(ish) then back in time (hopefully) for late JFK flight at 5pm. EI584/5 is only ever used for A330 operation, EI 582/586/588 are all A320/1 ops.

On this flight you pay extra to sit in the Premier cabin. I would suggest you choose seats 12ACHK or 31ACHK. A and K are the windows seats on A330. For a nice view sit in front of row 22,try row 9-11.

Aha! I always wondered how they spared an A330 to go to Malaga!!

This does cause problems as any delays impact badly on the entire schedule. For example a typical rotation over 5 days would be DUB-MCO-DUB,DUB-JFK-DUB, DUB-AGP-DUB, DUB-JFK-DUB, DUB-MCO-DUB. MCO-DUB arrives late on the second day, this delays JFK which next day delays AGP which has a tech problem in Malaga which delays late JFK which gets in lates next day so Orlando on the 5th day gets landed with a 4 hour delay.

I know its not financially sound but when the cabin refit is complete I would like to see one of the A333s not being refitted (EI-DUB or EI-JFK) being used almost as a short haul A330. Malaga is always over 65% load factor, to be honest you could probaly do Warsaw,Krakow or Rome on a A330 several times a week with similar loads. This 'short haul' A330 could be the backup aircraft for the longhaul ops if needed. Its going back to the leaser anyway in the next 2 years. Having it available would lessen the impact of any disruptions on the actual long haul fleet.
