Has anyone else been privy to the recent mailshot from Dave in DB?
(No fault Dave - just a lot of the the recipients btw)...

I know it's Monday, but that doesn't excuse the gimpery involved in the spanners who continue to reply with indignation about how they don't want to be included in people's replies - and include everyone in their reply.

Some people shouldn't be allowed access to their hands.

. In fairness the recipients mail address should never have been shown to everyone. I'm going to be asked to be taken off the list (and not by group e-mail).

I must admit I'm quite amused by it.

Was a little surprised and its probably just a small bug in a setup somewhere, but I can see the funny side of it.

I've now received in excess of 30 emails this morning and still counting!

I reckon a few of the respondants can see the funny side too

I work in a large company where this happened before. A mail was sent out to the entire company (morethan 50k people) saying 'this is a test please do not respond'. The entire mail system was brought down for about a week and it even made the news!

Yeah some people are seeing the funny side, at least.

People are getting annoyed that their email addresses are being displayed - which of course they wouldn't be if they hadn't replied to everyone in the first place...

I just wouldn't like to be teaching some of those people how to work a DSLR.

The latest one:

Please remove me from theses group e-mails. i have received this 10 times

You have received 10 emails from people exactly like you who keep replying to everyone.

That's it. I'm off to get my sword.

Its brilliant isn't it!

Some people don't realise that their email address hasn't been revealed until they hit reply.

I too know of a company where an email very similar to the "test, do not respond" one was sent and their entire system came to a grinding halt.

Haven't had this much fun on a Monday morning that doesn't involve a camera for a long time:)

I was on a course ( free) yesterday for purchasers of Canon 450D's/40D's. My initial thoughts were that the level was pitched a little low! I now understand why!!

They're only being spammed by the others on the group email!

And I'd say some of them would have difficulty removing their heads from a paper bag - never mind a mailing list.

In replied asking peoplwe to stop and that they'll likely get daves domain spam blocklisted if they keep it up, grr
its obvious these people have no idea how to use a maillist

Can I sincerely apologise to those who've suffered from this problem. Our ISP's server was hacked into at the weekend and security was severely breached. I've been working for Canon since 8am Saturday through to 8pm last night (Sunday) and didn't have access to my email to see this problem building up. Having been woken up from a deep sleep an hour ago I've worked feverishly to correct this major problem [ a 24 hour working weekend kinda takes it out of you :-) ]

I have deleted the email list from the server as we speak and that should stop the problem, as long as people don't hit the "Reply all" button as Dades pointed out below.

I've understandably lost a lot of valuable subscribers after this, having worked very hard to build the list up over the last 3 years. I fully understand their frustration and their reasons for leaving but I hope they may come back in the future.

To those who've stuck with me I sincerely thank you and I will make it up to you :-)

We're moving to a new ISP (obviously!) after this debacle,

First guy who replied to all on Saturday made an honest mistake.

The second guy, who decided to reply to all 2 days later saying his hair is okay needs shooting.

Fair play to Dave for making a completely honest and informative post.

He won't be losing me as a subscriber.

Its just a pity that people didn't sit back a little and take stock of what was actually happening.

Just so you know Dave, I only posted this thread to point and shout about the people on the list who were making themselves look stupid!

We all know where the problem started - and it wasn't at your end!

Never thought any different Dades! Thanks for starting the thread though 'cos it helped me calm a few people down!

Some of the replies have been funny though. One guy even thinks that with the male/female breakdown on the list that I could start a dating agency :-)

If people keep unsubscribing at the rate they are at the moment I might take him up on that

Fine - I'll delete the mails.

Thanks for your patience on this guys n' gals. It looks like things have settled down quite a bit.

With regard to the request for a free 1DsMkIII as compensation [ yes, that's you kensutz

], I may be able to go one better.

I'll be in Canon HQ in the UK on Wednesday and I may get info on something even better

If I do I'll order a container load as compensation

I'll post a report here on Wednesday night about what I hear,
