I have an electric guitar and one of the two knob controls pulls out a bit. It gives it a crispier tone. What exactly is it doing? Is it one of those knobs that switches the humbuckers into single coil and if so how does it do it?

The pickup(s) would have 4 conductor wires rather than the regular 2. This means that there's two sets of leads. Hot and ground for each coil, whereas normally you would have just a hot and ground for the entire pickup.

When you tap it, only one of the coils is being used which gives a more singlecoil like sound.
