Alcohol at Gigs - Do you Go Overboard Or Do You Bother With It At All!!!

At gigs, what your poison? Do you let yourself go completely or do you drink at all? Personally I go for Vodka and Coke or JD and Coke. I have also been known to go for the demon known as beer!!! What's your favourite, be it alcoholic or non-alcoholic? Also any bad experiences encountered at gigs as a result of your debauchery?

Got thrown off an Arch Enemy stage once with a few others for getting too involved. Great times.

Usually i'd have a pint or two but thats it. I've never been rat arsed at a gig.

I really dont understand why people pay for overpriced gig tickets and proceed to drink themselves into oblivion before/at it ?

Why would you pay that much money to see a band and then get yourself into such a state you cant remember the show ?

Not to mention how dangerous it could be, someone so drunk they cant stand falls over in a jumping crowd could = disaster for them.

A couple of pints but that's about it. I want to be able to enjoy and remember the gig. If I wanted to get wasted I could have put the money I paid for my overpriced ticket to better use in my local off licence.

    Agreed.

i'd have one or 2 never been majorly drunk at a gig.
the falling over thing can happen even if you're not drunk.
I was totally sober at a gig before in the pit got pushed over and ended up under about 10 guys, someone was standing on my leg so i couldnt stand up. eventually two guys just grabbed my arms and pulled me up. one of the scariest things that happened to me as people just kept jumping around when there was about six or seven of us on the ground. although i'd sya it would have been a lot worse had i been drinking.

The last time I was at a gig we won't speak of, I must've had around 10 Bacardi and coke/cranberrys at the Bacardi tent. But I may as well have been drinking water.. non effecto. Maybe they were actually serving us water and coke/cranberry :(

I remember being twisted at an Aslan gig before, but that was becuase we stumbled upon them, not knowing that they'd be in our local discotheque. Christy is Jebus!

    Depends on who's paying.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I don't drink before or during a gig (if its a proper band), I want to be able to hear the music and alcohol compromises that. If its a nobody band in the local or su a few beers or whiskey doesn't go amiss.

Some nice responses there. Regarding the Arch Enemy gig I was at, it was the band themselves that asked for a few of us to get up with them for a few mins. I only had a couple of beers and it was for the music I got up for. Unfortunately security weren't having none of it and threw us back off the stage. What I can't understand is why they were ok with it when the band asked us to get up, and once we did they went right for us. Some of them really irritate me, too much power and when they see a few people enjoying themselves they flex their muscles. They got a few boos from the crowd for that.

If I drive then no. Otherwise 2-3 during the gig and then 10 after :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,541 ✭✭✭Davei141

If its a concert with a savage pit ill have a few drinks and jump right in, it helps to delay the pain till the morning after.

Oulwans are the worst for being absolutely locked at gigs though, milling back the vodka/wine, and thats even way before the band on stage.

I tend to just get f*ck stoned and have a can or two.

I usually have a pint or two before the band comes on. If it's not too packed I may have one during, but not if people are going to be knocking into me and spilling! As others said I wanna remember and enjoy the gig, and after paying for a ticket and a t-shirt or something I'll be broke anyway!

I never get too wasted for a gig if I have paid good money for it and appreciate the artist. Unless of course it's apart of a huge 3 day camping event then I would end up at certain acts completely wasted, yet still plan to stay good for my favourites.

I normally never bother, I couldnt be arsed queuing for a flat warm beer in a plastic cup that will have half of it spilled before I leave the bar!

you forgot the fact that it is most likely watered down as well.

I would have one, maybe two. I don't think it's a good idea to get trolleyed at gigs. For one, it's dangerous (falling over in the pit, etc. I know that can happen when you're sober but I'd imagine it's worse when you're drunk). And secondly, I'd like to remember the gig afterwards! :pac:

I usually avoid drinkin durin concerts or maybe just the 1, but at a gig recently I was pretty drunk alright.

I never drink at gigs. The main reason is because I want to remember the whole thing the next day, but I also don't want to spend the gig needing to piss.

but to answer the topic, dont usally drink at gigs no!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,218 ✭✭✭Zangetsu

My gig drink: triple vodka in a pint glass topped up with a smitnoff ice.

No need to go to the bar every ten mins as 2/3 of them will have ya hugging the floor.

I never drink at gigs. I'm there to take in every moment of it and I want to remember it without falling around like a fool. That said I've had a few drinks with a band before a gig before as it would've been rude to say no.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

as with everyone else, 1 or 2 no more.

that being said the last gig i was at i manage to end up backstage drinking jack daniels with the band so kind of hard to refuse when it's flowing so freely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,212 ✭✭✭DenMan

Been really pleased by the responses here. I'd go along with everybody here and say that if it was a band I genuinely loved I would hardly drink at all and just really become immersed in the performance itself. Of course there have been quite a few where I had a bit to drink, without going overboard. Thanks for the responses everyone.

Yep, same here, I don't drink at all usually at gigs themselves - I prefer to head off to a pub afterwards if I fancy a drink.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,079 ✭✭✭shoelaceface

well now having said what i said previously!! that time was the only time i have drank at a concert... and that time was a festival.. and we all know that sometimes silly bands play during the day and you need something to make them enjoyable... but i drank in the day and sobered up by the nightime when the bands i wanted to see were on..... emo will verify that!

and i wasnt falling over.. thats just pointless and a waste of time... just really happy and merry and laughing..... and dancing alone :(... ENJOYING MYSELF BASICALLY!

I'd have one, two at most. I don't like spending expensive gigs in the jacks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

It depends on the gig really, and how much money I'm willing to spend that day.

Then again, I was rather merry at the last gig I was at and I remember every second of it. It probably also helped to stave off the moshing-related neck pain too. :)

I'll have one or two pints max at a gig. It's a waste if you're plastered. :)

Was there too and the Bacardi's had no effect on me whatsoever also. Was truly disappointed. Great weekend though :D

But generally, I'm pretty much drunk at gigs, or wherever there's drink around :P.
I still can enjoy the gigs and remember them.

I'm usually pretty pissed at gigs. I saw The Sex Pistols recently for the first time and my memory of the gig is hazy to say the least. Spent most of the day drinking prior to the gig - big mistake. Never again, well, at least not untill Motorhead.

I never drink at gigs i just don't see the point i'd rather enjoy the music and maybe if on to pub after maybe but seeing as i am always the one driving i don't!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 570 ✭✭✭stevecrow74

i usually try to get a pint i me before the gig.. dont have much chance to drink during the gig.. maybe one pint if i'm lucky enough to get someone to go to the bar and enough time between songs to have a drink of said pint...

have seen too many people getting paralytic at gig's.. its rather pathetic..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,893 ✭✭✭Davidius

Don't drink and never have. I've never been to a 'gig' either.

Yet I felt compelled to post.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,922 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Only ever drank at one gig (Ian Brown). Other than that I have no interest. I'm there for the music.

I'd have a few at festivals alright but usually early on in the day and as by the end I'm normally in the pit and don't wanna risk losing my spot by leaving for the sake of a beer.
