Do believe this would be incitement to hatred and therefore you could contact the gardai.
Of course it is more likely someones practical joke with the mobile number.

That number is getting written on a load of pub walls over the next while :)

    You're right. I retract that.

Seemed odd to me to post a mobile number.

I would definitely report this matter.

Bloody hell, this dude is a proper nutjob.

I've heard a few similar mutterings from a Cork kinda direction, is it something that's actually taken root there, or is it just the same bunch of vocal weirdos making all the noise?

Defo screw loose somewhere. Its scary stuff.

I have never heard of anything like this in ireland before.

Funny such a thing should pop up in Ireland considering for many years the Irish were regarded as the "white ****" or "**** of europe" i.e equally low as the black slaves certainly not the equal of our aristocratic betters next door in England. Sad to say i've noticed a rising tolerance of racist views here in cork over the past few years. Now a lot of this is based on the good ole tar them all with the same brush mentality but on the other hand i've yet to meet anyone who will say they've had positive dealings with certain nationalities. For instance my sister works in housing for the cork county council who said if she never had to deal with anyone but kenyans she'd have the easiest job in the world, but one nigerian and its all downhill. You are guaranteed you'll be shouted at or have something thrown at you. Now when i sit back and think rationally i know not all nigerians run around shouting and being generally abusive, but she and her colleges all have in in their heads that nigerian = nutter. So its easy to see how this sort of thing spreads and grows into racism!

sorry but white neo-nazi supremacists is just laughable. Do they accept the polish as they are obviously the Aryan race ? (tall and blonde for the most part)

Maybe it's just me, as a foreigner, but why would anyone want to keep Ireland white? You lot get no sun as it is and all look like milky skinned aliens :pac:

Seriously though, there will always be this sort of carry on, I simply take heart of the fact that we beat this type of crap down once before, and will do it again if necessary.

I'd laugh, but then, has it ever stopped raining for 30 seconds? :p

We'll sing songs of it, so that the next generation can know.

Seriously though, Cork and racism, when did that start?

Well i find Cork can be very tribal at times and while usually this is funny and nothing more than a bit of banter prehaps those few fools who live by the tribalism have taken it up to a new level, who knows either way that sort of **** won't take off. Unless of course it becomes seen as the only alternative to the ridiculous P.C culture that has gripped Ireland in the past few years, i've no problem being nice to people(ususally) and i'm not the type to discriminate against you based on your colour race religion etc but still this pain in the ass multiculturalism **** is really gettin under my skin.

Why did you report the phone number to meteor? Do you think someone has no right to own a phone if they're racist? Instead of a cowardly and ignorant attack on their right to propagate their ideas, you should have sent them an email or given them a phone call to tell them how stupid you think they are.

And they are stupid, ignorant racists insane racists, and I hope I never hear of them again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,090 ✭✭✭jill_valentine

ChocolateSauce they do not have the right to publically incite hatred. It's against the law - reporting it, and setting the wheels in motion for something practical to be done about it is infinitely more useful than... what, sending them a cranky email? Prank texting them late at night?

No, man, this a crazy racist we're talking about, not some ex-boyfriend we're after seeing out with their new bird in Dorans.

Not terribly suprising; seen plenty of that kind of attitude on here recently. Check out this dude:

How is it incitement to hatred?
Unless the definition was severly expanded since I last checked.

No, man, this a crazy racist we're talking about, not some ex-boyfriend we're after seeing out with their new bird in Dorans.

They do have a right to freedom of expression, and this right, enshrined in constitutional and EU law, overrides any anti-hate law, legally and morally. The freedom of expression is the most important right humans can have in a free society, and this must not be limited by misguided notions of "protecting" people. The freedom of expression means precisely the freedom to say things that other people do not what to hear. You don't want to hear him? Fine, don't listen. But maybe someone does want to hear him. By saying he does not have the right to say this, you are by extension saying you do not have the right to hear it. Do you know any one in the world who you would trust to tell you what you can and cannot hear? I don't.

Furthermore, this isn't a case of a rude man shouting abuse on a street corner, this is someone inviting people do enter into discussion about it. By saying he hasn't a right to do that, you are throwing away your own right to say things other people do not want to hear.

Reporting it is counter-productive to what you want. You, and I, want this man to stop spewing hate. But you have it wrong, if you gag him, all you do brush the problem under the rug. He is still a racist. Only by allowing him to voice his opinions and confronting them can you truly defeat him.

That there is the work of one Brian Wallace, AKA David Noone.

A dark skinned white supremacist (!) from Cork

There are two ways to deal with this, firstly there is the prohibition of incitement act of 88 or 89, and then there is section 19 of the litter pollution act of 1997. The Section 19 ridded Limerick of his posters and a visit by Roxboro Gardai ridded Limerick of him last year.

ur ancestors were prob once foreigners too. i dont get why people resist immigration so much. what does it matter to you that an irish person cant get a job becoz of someone moving who has moved to the country. they are just two people at end of the day.

It's not a specifically white/ Irish thing to self deprecate. And there is a double standard, yes, but that's not necessarily a bad thing - if somebody who's white and Irish makes a crack about their own ethnic/ cultural group, then you know for sure no earnest offense is intended. Mena's comment is clearly meant light-heartedly, and in the context of the thread causes no offense.

And that's the important thing; the context. I can call a friend of mine a bollocks, he'll laugh it off, because the context is clear. We both understand that's acceptable. If you're making a crack about something in a group that understands just exactly what you actually mean, all's cool. And you're always guaranteed that if you confine it to your own group.

Meh, whites are whites, irrespective of their history. Hitler particularly hated Poles - not just Polish Jews, Poles in general. And yet, that country is considered to be a very conservative one in general.

I love these Daily Mail-isms - "I blame the breakdown of society", "the world's gone mad", "the country is falling apart" etc. And despite how they've been used for decades and decades, the country has never actually "fallen apart"... I presume you're referring to the recession?
So how are people "right" to blame it on "foreigners" (meaning non whites/whites from non English-speaking countries doing menial jobs presumably, despite the far broader meaning "foreigner" has)?

As for this guy in Cork, not surprising. There have been ripplings of far right activity for quite a few years now, in line with the increase in immigration.

Not sure how useful this comment is to the overall scheme of things but here's what my nanny said recently of the medical cards entitlements being taken off of the over 70s.

"It's all these feckin foreigners coming in here scrounging the dole that's cause the government to do it. " - she was 80 in September. She also non stop complains that "these bleedin foreigners" get a bus pass when "I had to work till I retired for my bus pass".

She said of Barrack Obama that "he'll ruin the world, he'll just be looking after his own".
If it's of any consequence she sometimes refers to black people as "coloured".
The litany goes on and on .

Is it racist to call someone black ? If I call you a "white bastard" that's not racist but if I call someone a "black bastard" it could very well be ? Yet since Obama becoming president elect it seems ok to call someone black to describe them. Even though he's more mocha. Recently a black woman was acquited of inciting racial hatred when she allegedly called an Irish woman a "“f***ing leprechaun”. " I wonder how a court would rule if a black person called a white person a "white bastard"
