Geforce 6600 Problems: only 4-bit graphics

I have just reinstalled XP H.E. and i downloaded and installed the nVidia drivers and when i go to the screen settings now the only options are 640 x 820(something like that) and only 4-bit color, can't figure it out, i've installed the most up to date chipset software and graphic drivers. Anyone have any ideas?

Download and run Driver Sweeper in safe mode to remove all nvidia drivers, then try downloading a archived driver release and see how it goes, ignore betas/hacked inf ones (Hacked inf ones would be ones you get from guru 3d, etc at times)
