    Hi:)

Is it possible to play GBA games from an R4? Would it be as simple as changing the .gba to .nds? Or would I need to find some software to convert the .gba files?

    Any advice welcome, thanks.

Nope, not possible. You need a slot 2 device to go with the r4. Check out one called the ez-flash 3-in-1. Can get it on dealextreme for cheap enough. It's a rumble pack and RAM expansion too for the internet browser.

I do have a slot 2 device, the bit that goes with the supercard (had one before I found the r4's), any joy with that one?

Tks for info, will check on dealextreme as you recommended :)

    Edit:

    Would this be the one?

or this one we have an old style ds?

Hmmm. The one you have might work. I'm not sure myself as I only have experience using those ez flash 3 in 1s.

Yeah those links you sent are it alright. Actually, I didn't know they'd released one for the old DS too. When I bought mine they only had the DS lite ones.

If you do get it, you need to put a program and all the gba stuff on the r4. You run the program from the r4 and it boots up the ezflash.

Love the 3-in-1... great little gadget.

You'll need gbaexploader to write the files to your 3-in-1.
If you want to play old GB and GBC games, you'll need Goomba.

I bought an EZ Flash 3 in 1 with rumble, only to find that to save space they removed the GBA feature, bugger! Why take out the one thing I needed?
    Feck, Feck and Feck again.

Now I play my "backups" through the Homebrew channel on the Wii, not quite the same as on the DS but, better than nothing I guess.

So it was unable to play your backups then?

:eek::eek: at the missing GBA feature.

I may hold out on the 3 in 1 for now and just see if I can get the GBA games on ebay. Its just pokemon games for my son so nothing crucial.............then again everything is critical to a 6 year old!!! (Wasn't I clever to keep backups in the first place all the same)

Homebrew channel on Wii? We have a wii....................I take it if I do a clever search on this forum that I will find some info??

Ty to posters for your help :)

    :D

    Thank you.

Was just making sure I didn't bend any rules by asking directly.

Appreciate you picking up on the subtle hint :p

    Gotta go learn homebrew :D

Ok, I loaded up the game on the Supercard. The supercard has a miniSD card that slots into it, so technically loaded it onto that. Turned on the DS and the games show up. They show up as xxxx.gba. The game looks like it loads no problem, but then I get a blank screen. Have I missed something here?

In order to play DS games on the Supercard they need to be run though a program, I might have to go that route. All suggestions welcome.

    Many thanks.

Do you have a 3-in-1 card? GBA games need to run off Slot 2 on your DS.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 988 ✭✭✭IsThatSo?

That is a slot 2 device. The supercard bits were the bits I had before I got an R4 to play my DS back-ups. There are two parts, and DS style cart and the supercard bit for slot 2.

Try download the new firmware from the website that might work.

Just in case anyone else ever runs into the issue raised in original post:

    http://forums.maxconsole.net/archive/index.php/t-21171.html

Can't be done on R4, but can on the supercard.

I just gotta get around to doing it now :D

Thanks for all help guys, much appreciated.
