Hmmm not sure how much of Universal studios you will see in half a day. Myself and the missus were there in August and it took us a full day to take it all in. If you do go I'd highly recommend getting the front of line pass. Well worth the extra cost. (Otherwise you will waste all your time there queing in sweltering heat). You get a special pass that allows you to go to the top of the queue for everything there. When you see the lenght of the queues you will be thanking Jebus you spent the few dollars extra!! We booked ours on line and were able to skip the queue at the front gates even on the way in. You get your own special lane for queues inside with the pass and I'd also get there first thing in the morning. Gets really busy by 11 or 12. Do the Simpsons, Jurassic and Mummy rides if nothing else. Get a mac on way in for Jurassic ride. You get wet/slashed!! Also done a tour of the back lot. Seen sets for films like War of the Worlds, (scene where Tom Cruise walks out of demolished house to find a crashed boeing 747 outside), Desperate House wives, Jaws, countless westerns and the Motel from Hitchcocks Physco with a real life Norman Bates chasing you with a knife!

We also went to the pier and beach in Santa Monica, the factory out lets in Camarillo (bring an empty bag and fill it with designer labels for peanuts!!), done the walk of fame, Manns chinese theatre, Kodak centre where Oscars take place, took a tour of the sights the usual touristy crap. Was really enjoyable but you might hate it. Depends on your tastes and what interests you. Get your hands on a lonely planet book for LA. Will be filled with lots of ideas and recommendations. You are strapped for time though so you are fairly limited. LA is absolutely, mind bogglingly massive. You will spend a lot of time just getting from A to B so leave early for where your going and enjoy the sunshine!!
