ive noticed a good few people on boards shot a lot of sports matchs such as football and rugby i was just wondering how you would go about getting permission to take photographs at matchs.

Apply to the club or association/federation is a start.

For example, I'm working in the Olympic Stadium Berlin this Tuesday and had to apply for accrediation to Hertha Berlin via St patrick's Athletic even though I am workign for an agency on the day.

Don't jump into the deep end at first. Build up a portfolio in case some clubs ask what work you do and who you do it for.

What kind of gear are you using?
Also helps if you have a media outlet for your images.
90% of clubs/organisations will want to know who you're shooting for.

Start off with a local club & get a feel for it.
Also, make sure that if you do get on the pitch, you don't disrupt the game, or cause a health/safety risk.

If you're going to use the 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 lens with a d300 for sport, you'd better make sure the event is on early in the day & the sun is shining.
Neither of those is built for speed.
