    Nice enough city.

Couple of people in this thread had a bad experience.

As we walked out the door we were confronted by a bouncer who informed us we hadn't paid our bill . We were confused as we had paid for the drinks. We went to the bar and each of us was presented with bills for 450e each. we were astounded and refused to pay

Riga is a beautiful city but you need to keep your wits about you. Unfortunately since Ryanair started flying there it's suffered an invasion of Irish and British idiots at weekends (like the sort who can't tell a strip joint from a night club). The locals are more than happy to rip them off.

If you and your mates are used to travelling a bit off the beaten track and can hold your drink without anyone getting aggressive then go for it. If package holidays are your normal thing you should steer clear.

(like the sort who can't tell a strip joint from a night club)

Night club (or variation of it) means strip club. Discotheque is your more traditionaly club.

Would recommend a hotel called Imperial Palace. Situated in the old town, minutes walk from everything you'll likely see.

Lovely old town, but there isn't a huge amount to do. As above, the place is infected by drunk tourists at the weekend.
