Apologies if this is not the place for this.

I just saw an advert for Max Power Fire Magnetic units, which are meant to wrap around your home heating fuel pipe and reduce your fuel costs. The cynic in me wondered if it was all snake oil.

Is there a scientific basis for what the makers claim?

Link to a site mentioned in the promotion.

    You have two choices:

    1. Get him to explain how magnets can (materially) affect hydrocarbons, water and gases
    2. Set GuanYin on him.

If you want to save money on your heating, use insulation and seal draughts. Insulation on pipes is only really useful when the heat is being lost to the outside or ventilated spaces (liek a boiler house). Inside your home, its just an unregulated radiator.

You might mention him to the National Consumer Agency. www.nca.ie
