Does anybody know if I can get a box that can receive both FTA HD broadcasts on satellite and also digital terrestrial.

I know such a combo exists for standard definition, but has anybody seen one for HD as well?

There are, but you would be mad.
get separate HD Sat. Only get DTT box next year.

Or get cheaper MPEG4 DTT box and upgrade later...

    Mvision box does this also.

Watty why do you say " you would be mad" ?

Because the Irish DTT service is not available to most people yet, is only testing and by the time of launch there will be better choice of combo boxes maybe with 320G or 500G disks.

Early adopters/pioneers get the arrows in back and pay more.

For HD I would not consider a non-PVR solution as my DVD recorder and / or S-VHS can't record it.

The price of MPEG4 DTT will drop rapidly over next 6 months and while HD broadcast not likely soon, you never know.

As you know a Combo HD /PVR DTT/Sat box will give excellent and sometimes better pictures on SCART RGB to a regular TV than a cheap non-HD box.

Also finally until it launches we don't 110% know what RTE and Boxer will do. I'd like a CAM too in the unlikely event that Boxer has some sort of Pay TV offering I'd like. I've been known to subscribe / cancel (repeat) with Sky..

Perhaps "mad" is a bit strong. Maybe a bit premature to have a Combo. Many so called PVR combos I've looked at have only one tuner of each. A "real" combo PVR needs 2 tuners of each.

VHS and external DVD recorders are on life support due to HD.

I agree if you want an integrated twin tuner hard drive then wait but the current boxes do have card slots and common interfaces.

I suspect most new to HD have not thought through the recording aspect.

Of course some people never record/time shift and for them it *MIGHT* be safe to buy a combo now.

    Another thought...

HD recording uses the disk up 2.5 times faster at least!

    Thanks for the advice.

I'm looking to combine BBC HD on freesat with Dutch DTT (which is already up and running). Dutch telly is also FTV on satellite but they seem to have stretched their definition of "free", they're looking for 75 euro for a Dutch FTV card...

Looks like I'm better off waiting a few months though, but good to know the products exist.

By the way, is there HighDef DTT in the offing, or will this never happen due to there not being enough available frequencies in the air?
