perhaps someone could clarify for me , i heard a report on morning ireland about a month ago in which the reporter stated that an individual is classed as sufferring from chronic pain if they have been in pain for more than six months , did i hear correctly , i thought that chronic pain meant someone was bachically in excruciating pain all the time, the reason i ask is i myself have been in pain now for almost a year ( suffered a chest injury ) but the pain is significantly less now than it was back in january

    Hi,

It doesn't have to refer to constant pain. It is just - I suppose - regular or frequent bouts of pain. For example, I have a chronic condition known as Ulcerative Collitis. My pain comes and goes throughout the day; everyday.

perhaps this has no relevance to your condition but a pain specialist told me i had the option of having a pain injection or nerve block which could kill the pain indefinatley , she also told me it was not without risk though , would such a proceedure be an option for your condition

    Hi again,

Which one are you talking about - the injection or the nerve-blocking procedure? Anyway, when i was first diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, I distinctly remember my gastroenterologist offering me pain medication, but I refused it (I'm not trying to sound macho... ...).

not sure exactly , i understood that the procedure involved injecting a particular substance into the nerve , in my case its close to the lung which worst case scenario could collapse , im giving serious thought to going ahead with it though as i dont fancy having to live with pain for a possible 5 yrs , while its not near as bad as it was , its always with you and while your tollerance of pain certainly grows with time , you never really get used to it

Well, I don't feel in a suitable position to offer you advice on this - I'm sure you understand. What I will say is that you should talk about this extensively with your doctor(s) and also research it online. There may be online forums specifically for your condfition, for example, where you could discuss this issue with people who have already gone through with it.
