Retrieving Data After Wiping Hard Drive??

    Ok...here's the situation...

I wiped my girlfriend's PC this morning. I used the Windows XP disc to wipe and format the drive and put a completely clean installation on. She then tells me that there are files that her mother needs really badly for work (has no backups either)...any idea how I can recover these?? Never been in this situation before...

    Thanks in advance :D

    uh ohhhhhh

I've had fairly good success with get data back. when you get to the screen where it shows what you can recover, you have to cough up 90 odd quid to get a licence to activate the sw.

well worth it to get in your future in-law's good books

PS: there is a FAT32 & NTFS version available. Obiviously choose the version according to the file system you chose at setup

I'd say you will definitely need something like this.

I have successfully used it to retrieve data from formatted drives.

Might sound expensive but it's nothing compared to the companies charging four figure sums to do similar work.

All depends on how "Mission critical" the data is (or the outlaws).

if you reinstalled an os over it i'd say your chances of recovering anything are pretty slim

see free prog www.pcinspector.de ,but you need to buy a usb drive enclosure or else set the drive up as a slave drive in a pc ,drive d,and dont use that laptop for anything, install nothing on the harddrive, dont use the net, search this forum, retrieving files ,recover files , undelete files.some data will be lost by installing os, but os only takes up 7 or 8gigabytes.Theres free progs that,ll run from a live cdrom examine the hd and tell you exactly what files ,data can be recovered.

I did a format, and a reinstall of Windows, but O&O Disk Recovery got files back for me.
