Hi, anyone out there got a Firebird Popular 82, mine's has been dry for about 4 weeks, got oil in it today, have bled the oil so cleared the air lock but just won't start. Can anyone help? Impossible to find a maintenance manual on line.

    Thanks in advance,

    damian

Are you sure that the airlock is cleared? Have a Firebired (70/90) outdoor boiler and each year, have to spend a long time beeding it. Even when some oil comes out when I loosen the bolt, it doesn't start straight away. Have to keep bleeding it for a good while more before eventually, it kicks into life.

Thanks, bled the pipes a little more and also tightened the fire valve screw (i think that what it's called) and i'm now baking, two radiatorrs that never worked no matter how much i beld them now work also so the whole house is toasty for a change, thanks you, thank you, thank you.

No hassle - have had my own boiler tribulations resolved thanks to this (and one other) message board in previous years - so glad my suggestion helped!
Others will no more but I think that other 'valve' has a lot to do with the efficiency of the boiler....so if you find your burning more than you should, the setting of this might have something to do with it.

BTW, how often do people actually get oil boilers serviced (i'm going into winter no. 3 with what was a new boiler)?

Hi, just to let you know, you may have let too much oil through. I (also) have had this problem with running dry of oil, turned the wrong screw initially and, once bled, everything was fine. If I think you turned the screw I think you turned, you may have opened the outlet fully. It'll work away fine but you will be using more oil than is necessary. It may be worth getting a service-person (very pc!) out to service the boiler (especailly if you haven't in a year or two). It could cost upto a €100 but if your settings are wrong your throughing away oil. Just a thought.

Hi , I never had oil before. Moved in and got tank filled up and the delivery man started it and said it was going fine... I turned it off a while later.. and was able to start it again that night...
But now, I turn the timer to on (24hr) and I can hear a hiss when I do, but it never fires on.. I pushed in the button at the front and held it in a few times, but nothing.. It's a firebird 90.

    Any ideas? thanks!

Your biggest mistake there was firing the boiler after getting an oil fil. Debris and dirt will get stirred up in the tank, and this will make its way to your boiler And block filters. When you get a fill of oil, turn off the valve at the tank for a few hours until it all settles.
Your best bet would be to get a local serviceman out to check it out.
Post your location and somebody might be able to reccomend a guy.
