    OK,
had a few quick laps of the closed demo that was released this week..
Suffice to say, people out there who loved the first title are going to like this..
Again, Evolution have done a great job in conveying a completely chaotic race ensuring the player need to be fully focused on just staying upright (especially on the bikes)..

Basic mechanics are unchanged (although the cars have a nice little barge maneuver for any opponent riding side-by-side, bikes have the bunny-hop as well as a duck for all those low-hanging branches).......Boost etc etc are all back as expected..
Demo allows you a couple of laps on once course (cliff-side track with some forested area) either in single player or two-player (haven't tried it out though)........Choice of bike, sports jeep or big-foot (CPU in the race has access to cars, ATVs, pseudo-racing cars etc)..
By the way, loading during/after vehicle select is very quick for all those concerned by the first game...........but I wouldn't be surprised if the select screen is re-designed for the full game.......will have to wait and see..
Couple different camera views etc just like the first game..

Graphics-wise ?............, on the whole are pretty impressive with some small caveats.........lighting can look a little flat in some areas of the lap (in a similar way to the first game), and there are some low-detailed textures at work (again similar to the likes of the first game and last week's Pure)..
However, draw distance is excellent.....no slowdown visible, and an extremely smooth, rapid pace is kept up without any major glitching, tearing etc..
Models are again in excellent shape and while it may not have the immediate "jaw-dropping" effect of the first title a couple years back when it was first released, it is certainly around the top rung of current-gen racers..
The track in the demo certainly shows a lot of promise for the other stages and the intro video shows plenty of variation in level design..

Bottom-line, looking excellent........proper PSN demo is released in a month's time, so its possible there may be a few more changes..

Most importantly, what's the soundtrack like???

Good review, sounds very promising once the few minor issues have been ironed out

Can't really help you with that one RoryMac............first thing I would do after loading up the first one was to turn down/off the music !
Couldn't stand the tracks, but then again, I'm not a big music person..
In the demo of the 2nd one, there doesn't appear to be any option to change the audio in the game, so there is just this rock track playing throughout (don't ask me what its called !)..
Full game will have custom soundtracks anyway, if thats your bag..

Sound effects, engine noise etc are all top-notch once again..

I am not, in any way, questioning the validity of your story btw, but how did you get access to the demo?

Was it a Qore subscription or a test-play, perhaps at a convention like Leipzig?

    No problem,
can't really go into the ins and outs of how I have the demo (work reasons, suffice to say), but its the same demo that was released for the Qore program and the EU PSN user invitation..
Demo that comes out next month for PSN may be the same (615mb) as well, but last minute tweaking could influence whether or not an improved demo is released..

thanks for the info. i've been looking forward to this game.

even more so now to read that the awful loading times for vehicles are gone - that was the worst thing about the first game along with the online system of having to wait for a race to end (5 mins or more) or hopping between rooms to try get lucky with one starting soon

    LOL....sorry mate, can't.....

But there seems to be a fair amount of invites for EU PSN users going out this week (know 2 lads who've already got one), so you never your luck..

Anyone with a US account who purchases Issue 4 (September issue) of Qore gets the demo.

If you want it, it's going to cost $2.99 (Qore, not the demo)

Without being on of the EU chosen that's the only way to be sure of getting it..
unless you 'have it for "work" reasons'....LOL

Why dont the developers just release new updates like warhawk does?

What most people want is custom soundtracks, ie your own music
Faster load times for vehicle choosing and new tracks!!

had a few goes of this there just now. pretty good i must say.

very similiar to the first game with the extras as mentioned in the original post making it better. not a whole lot better but nice additions. great to see the load times basically non existant so you are more likely to go play 'one more'.

looking forward to the full game. the track in the demo is as good as any of the tracks in the first game so the other 15 in the game should be great.

The only real difference i can see is the track. Not that they really needed to change much , motorstorm is one of the most fun racers ive ever played.
The menu probably isnt final because its just a few basic images .

one of the main differences i noticed is when you crash now rather then watching the whole crash in slow mo theres now the option to press x to skip. that was 1 thing that drove me cracked in the first 1.

The game is awesome ,but I was expecting a bit more width in gameplay.
Like when you come up against opponents ,there should be a bit more movement between battles.

I didn't get one but i'm not dying to play it so i don't mind waiting.

Its strange why they just don't lash it up on the store for everybody.
